Thread: Rethinking the New Orleans Bowl

  1. Default Rethinking the New Orleans Bowl

    The Cajuns deserve better.

To clarify, the Cajun football team and coaches deserve better. Contrary to what many have said, a bowl game is a reward for the team, not the fans. Cajun fans have already received their just desserts many times over. A current eight-game winning streak, blossoming stars on offense and defense, exciting games and most of all a stirring rebound from two haunting early season defeats. If that isn’t enough, indoor game seating and a walk down Bourbon Street won’t help. And enough about how Cajun fans travel. Everybody travels to New Orleans. Everybody but Arkansas State, that is. Despite winning the Sun Belt the past two seasons, ASU has been banished to Mobile and the GoDaddy.com Bowl. More like thrown in the briar patch. In 2011 ASU lost to Northern Illinois, which went to the Orange Bowl the next year and last year it beat Kent State, at the time ranked #25.

Who ever the idiot that wrote that never sat in the stadium through countless beat downs or when we had spectacular players and didn't get to go to a bowl. As to the "fact" that everyone travels well to New Orleans, please tell me how well Florida traveled to last year's Sugar Bowl or how well North Texas traveled in their trips to New Orleans.

The Indy is the biggest RAG there is and nothing but a couple of folks using it for their own personal agenda.

Neither the fans or the football players decide who we play and where.

What does sitting through legislative sessions teach someone in terms of post season bowls?

Wow. The article is built on the foundation of "bowl projections." Neither this author nor "bowl projectors" have any idea how much maneuvering goes on with bowl selection, and ASU vs NIU certainly is not a done deal. Is he sympathetic enough toward ASU to go play Toledo in Mobile? His "players deserve better" premise died with the parenthetical "realistically, Shreveport, Mobile, New Orleans."

The IND is not independent in any way shape or form. They are an anti-UL rag that has in many cases been anti-Lafayette.

NIU does not have to play in the Go Daddy Bowl. The Little Ceasar's Bowl has the MAC Champion this year because of a deal made a few years back. NIU will not be in Mobile either way this year. The ACC doesn't want to play a SBC program in the Indy Bowl, so they have been reaching out to other programs like Washington State or Oregon State. UL is pretty much a lock for the NO Bowl, considering they are suppose to be in attendance at Saturday's game. Anything can happen, but it doesn't look like it now. The author is all over the place in this article.

What a silly statement! I went to the new Orleans bowl when Southern Miss played Troy. Let me tell you, not everybody travels to New Orleans. Not like the Cajuns.

That was a dumb comment, among others. He splattered the liquid bowl projections on the wall and acted like he knows what's solid. There's ambiguity regarding opponents at every possible bowl we have a chance.

I'm trying to figure out why this guy has issues with Cajun fans. Fans are arguing the merits of better opponents versus better venues... and the personal and program benefit of each. And there are many more things on the table than our creature comforts and the football players "deserving" a better opponent.

Our fans and football players are unified. This guy doesn't appear to be one of either. So he needs to Please.
