Please someone tell me where our other sports are going to play if we go independent in football?
Not only are you correct about the recentness of our branding push of "Louisiana Ragin Cajuns"... we've only recently had these levels of challenges... due to a mix of success and national TV coverage. We've never expected the rest of the state to go along with our branding or preferred naming.
The two groups we're working on are "us" and the "outside the state" entities. We've hit a snag with ESPN... due to the SBC and ULM... in combination. There are more paths to take before throwing in the towel. I do believe T-Joe has to make it clear to us whether he's in for the long haul on the branding name. Silently riding the fence doesn't appear to be a solid strategy.
And if Oiler were correct... all of these articles and issues that sprang to life in the last few months... would have happened long before now. We're at one of our first big barrier tests with our branding initiative.
When the marketing is via athletics... and you aren't getting anything outside of the state's attention... for those 13 years... until the last 3... the spinning wheels were in our own garage. We've only hit the road recently. And that is why we're catching all of the flack. Yes... Ragin Pagin has been fighting with trolls for many years... but that has nothing to do with this latest conflict. UL has not marketed our branding anywhere or anyhow until recently.
That would be the fans, because T Joe is not going to upset Bruno.
Some testicles needed for T Joe in this matter, or maybe he was told by the powers to give it up. Either way it is time the president of UL, or UL@Lafayette make it clear. Have we caved in so easily, or are we going to fight the good fight.
2 leagues would take us, no questions asked.
WAC and Atlantic Sun
Both would require more travel, but both are better RPI leagues on most years, especially the WAC. Even with the new lineups, they will continue to be ranked higher.
It's not the perfect situation, but they are viable options.
I'm not claiming that our current plan works or will work. My position is that our current athletic branding plan is getting it's first serious test. Saying that we've "pushed it for decades" is not true.
If the plan is to be all cute with each other with "Louisiana Ragin Cajuns"... only to hide it in the company of others... I'm not in favor of the plan. I figured we'd force the issue and make this come to a head. If T-Joe thinks we're heading for Louisiana-Lafayette or ULL for athletic branding identity... he'd be better off fighting for our current branding name... take his licks from the state... then announce to us that we're being forced to change it. He's going to catch more hell from us if he just rolls over.
I want the fight. Being forced by this state into a concentration camp of their design is fine with me. I'm not, however, willing to back down because some punks are crying about what we call ourselves athletically.
Anyone notice, ole Tabby sure has been quiet this week. Guess having to throw the name game article out early when we had a little traction working left her with no plan B.
