Your name is who you are. It's your brand. I just bought a house. Going through the title process was a pain in the ___ because some dumbass with the same name had 8 or so paternity suits against him. I had to prove I wasn't this jag off. Once I established that I was not the dead beat everything was fine and the sale went through. Just like I had to disassociate myself with mister reprobate...we must do the same with ULM...and fast. If you cannot see the importance of it...if you cannot understand how long we have waited...if you cannot grasp how hard we got shafted in 1984...maybe this university and it's athletic program isn't for you.

Next year will mark the 30th anniversary of our name change. Today we are no closer to being known as Louisiana than we were back in 1984. I wish we had been successful in getting ESPN, USA Today, AP, or even Louisiana based newspapers to refer to us as Louisiana, but we have not. They've all demonstrated for the past 30 years that they simply will NOT refer to us as UL or Louisiana, even in athletics. This battle can not be won. This name issue is having a negative effect on our university's progress. LSU and their many fans will never accept our name as UL, nor will any of our fellow UL System schools. For this reason, most of the state's legislators DO NOT SUPPORT our cause. As a state funded university, this is not a good situation. We have a nationally known brand in "Ragin Cajuns". We should put our efforts into promoting it instead of beating the same old dead horse that we've beaten for 30 years……...Or not.

There is a problem there too.

80% of all headlines coming out of the University just say Cajuns not Ragin' Cajuns.

Same for the Advertiser, very few Ragin' Cajuns headlines. You do get it a little more R'C branding from papers that refuse to use Louisiana or UL.

Then on the other hand I see tremendous progress in outside entities using Louisiana. It's just that tremendous isn't fast enough for anyone.

And then we can be the Oh La La Ragin Cajuns. Or the LaLaf Ragin Cajuns. Or the Lafayette Leopards. Etc. etc.

By the way where is ohLaLa, Louisiana? Is that near Shreveport?

Quite the contrary...we have made loads of progress. Many publications, athletic programs, and media outlets DO refer to us as Louisiana. Rome wasn't built in a day. Quitting at this point is tantamount to treason. We have worked this hard, and the only obstacles we have in our way are the petty holdouts who are nervous at what we have accomplished and ____ting themselves knowing what we will eventually accomplish. The tide will eventually swarm them over and drown them in a sea of Vermilion and White justice.

Eventually the petty holdouts will be in the minority and public pressure will strangle them and they will have no choice but to pick up that big ole ____burger and take a ____ing bite. It will happen...no one could have imagined we would have made as much progress as we have had. Persistence is the key. People who try to hold you down will try to break you. That's the problem...these ____ers don't know who they are messing with. Cajuns are a tough minded group of people who will never, EVER break. They can be petty as long as they want...it won't stop us from pressing the issue and demanding what is rightfully ours. Now is not the time to collapse and break and concede...it is time to fortify our resolve. We are Louisiana...if you cannot handle that...get used to it.

    Oiler,

I am actually glad you came out and said this. Most of the time you couldnt be further from what actually happens...i.e. all of your conf realignment predictions. So for you to say it is a battle we cant win, I actually feel pretty confident that we are headed in the right direction.

That jackass on 103.7 just ull'ed us twice in his interview with Monroe's play by play guy.

Turned it off after the second time.

It is important that Dr. Savoie present his position on the branding/name issue.

I am a little surprised that he has not made any public comments, unless of course, there is activity that is progressing toward a conclusion.

Dr. Savoie needs to lead from the front, rather than remain in the tent.

Haven't listened in a while, but the afternoon show guys would regularly refer to us as "UL" or Louisiana Ragin Cajuns.

Oh...and Moanroe"s play by play guy evidently said on air last weekend after their loss that THIS game was the most important one. These jackasses evidently care more about beating us than trying to win other games and get to a bowl. Then again, who would invite them after they couldn't bring more than 10k people just an hour down the road for a bowl??

I hope HUD has our guys focused and on top of their game Saturday, because Moanroe decided before the season began that we are their bowl game. I hope we skull drag them.

I wonder if Doc will let the band do its pre-game "UL" formation? Or maybe he'll have the flag girls run out with a big "Lafayette" banner to hold beneath it.
