Did you hear Saban's interview about winning at Alabama? He talked about how it isn't fun anymore. The fun was in building. Couple that with millions of people saying Hudspeth CAN'T WIN at MSU and you have an interesting scenario. You can't convince me that he wouldn't choose that job because he can't win there. Coaches believe that they can take the worst of the worst and make it a winner. Now there may be other scenarios why he wouldn't go to MSU but "not being able to win there" is not one of them.
I agree 100 %. I'm sure the same was said about the opening here...we were one of the worst programs in FCS and look what he has done. I do not buy the "can't compete in the SEC" argument.

HUD turned down the ulm job a year earlier for that exact reason. Why wouldn't he have that same thinking? He said in his first interview that after talking with savoie and farmer that they assured him they were serious about building a program. He thought you could win here because of the city, recruiting base and money potential. HUD is a smart man, I don't think he is gonna jump ship just to jump ship. He stayed at north alabama for 7 years, you don't think he had better financial opportunities before 7 years?

Comparing ULM to MSU is apples to oranges. MSU was climbing the rankings just a few years ago. They, although slim, have the potential to win in the SEC.

Again, I said I don't think he is going anywhere. I was stating that "he can't win at MSU" is not a reason he why he would turn down the job.

Then you haven't spoken to him about it. But let me ask you this, when was the last time Miss State won a national championship? How many division championships have they won in the past 20 years? What is their budget compared to Alabama?

When you compare Alabama to Miss State job..it's comparing apples to oranges. When you compare a coach looking to build something at his first FBS job, to wanting to build something at a Miss State job...you are talking apples and oranges as well.

The difference is clear, Hud knows what is available at Miss State in resources and he is smart enough to know they are not Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Florida, Tenneessee, Georgia or Texas A&M.

If Hud takes a job at Miss State, then it will be because our university hasn't followed through on the commitments he was promised and he had enough. He wins a championship or two and gets UL in the Top25, he will get his share of interviews at some of the top jobs in SEC or ACC.

Just curious did Hud ever say Mississippi State is his dream job or is this all speculation because he from the area? I do not know the answer and it is just a question please do not read anything else into the post.

I didn't compare ULM to MSU. ULM has a better chance of winning the sunbelt than MSU has of winning the west division much less the SEC. Comparing ULM to UL is like comparing MSU to bama, lsu, texas a &m auburn, Georgia Florida. The gaps are actually way larger between those programs than the gap between us and ULM. So if he would turn down ULM for that reason, why would he take MSU. You would be playing for 3rd and 4th place in the west division on your best years.

Hud said he grew up a Miss State fan, he never said it was his dream job. Never heard it from him.

IMO if it was his "dream job" he wouldn't have left after 2 years.

We can agree to disagree but playing for 3rd and 4th in the SEC with the possibility of catching lightning in a bottle and winning the SEC (and by default playing in the national championship) is a world of difference from playing for 1st or 2nd in the Sunbelt. At 9-4 in 2010, they finished at #15. Go 12-0 at ULM and they aren't in the top 25. You can't compare the two scenarios at all.

Again, I do not think he will leave us for MSU. Like CajunT said, we will have to eff up for him to leave us for them. I am simply stating that if he is offered the job, he will not say to himself "I can't win there so I'm not even considering it".

CajunRage makes the most sense out of anyone. I've said it for the past 3 years... something tells me HUD will stay here for a long time.. not forever... but I don't see this guy jumping ship after 3 or 4 years of success. AFter 8 years of success and making this program a Top 25 team, maybe. But I have faith in HUD and I don't see him screwing us over by leaving so soon. I truly believe him when he says he wants to build this program to new heights... the only way we get there, is with him at the helm.
