  1. UL Basketball Rimmer and Louisiana Teammates Hold Off Chanticleers In Maui On The Mainland Final, 73-69

CONWAY, S.C. – Xavian Rimmer came off the bench to score a career-high 21 points and Shawn Long battled back from first-half foul trouble to score 16 of his 18 points in the second half as Louisiana held off a last-minute charge by host Coastal Carolina to claim a 73-69 win on Sunday afternoon in the title game of the EA Sports Maui on the Mainland Classic.

It is hard to believe this is the first non conference road victory for the Cajuns under Marlin. Even a bad team gets lucky every now and then, and we have been an average team not bad.

Hopefully we've found an outside shooter in Rimmer

Rimmer was the SWAC freshman of the year at Alcorn. That is why I was encouraged when we signed him. I figured it would not take him as long to contribute as other JC transfers as he already had D1 experience.

so do we have a special team this year? What's the prognosis? I love Marlin, but I'm cautious at best when it comes to our chances to do anything this season. Hopefully we can have an amazing season to reward Elfrid for all his hard work. I have a feeling with as good as he is, it won't be long before he's in the NBA, and I want him to leave UL with a good impression and memories. Don't want him to think his time at UL was wasted.

I do believe this is the deepest team we have had in some time and their is plenty of talent, but we will struggle to make the NCAA's. Barring any major injury, this team will be in post season play, but that may be in one of the secondary tournaments, with and outside shot at the SBC conference championship. The young guys are going to get better as the season goes on, helping Elfrid and Long. I do believe Wronk and Rimmer will be big peices by seasons end.
