With inspiring messages and a rousing performance from the Unity Step Team, UL students and faculty kicked off Black History Month a day early with a special celebration Thursday night.
The events will carry the national theme of "Carter G. Woodson, The Origins of Multiculturalism." Woodson, a well-known author and historian, is widely credited as the founder of Black History Month.
UL Regi-strar DeWayne Bowie said the month is a time to reflect on both the struggles and successes of blacks and their major contributions to making America a country of diversity.
