How do people not understand the bowl payout system yet.
How do people not understand the bowl payout system yet.
Ticket sales is what makes money and yes, we would have to share the wealth. Fans would still travel well to Shreveport, but not nearly on the scale that they would to NOLA. The New Orleans Bowl is an experience over and above a football game. It's fun to visit the city, it's an easy trip for most, and it's an event that people get fired up for. The former Independence Bowl has nearly nothing to offer other than the potential for a slightly better opponent as far as national perception goes.
The New Oreleans Bowl vs. a good team is exactly where we want to be. If were to get matched up against a Middle or North Texas and had the opportunity to play a team like Boston College or another mid-level ACC or other BCS team in Shreveport, then that would certainly warrant consideration.
I THINK that we only share revenue up to covering expenses of the teams that actually play in bowls---If this is correct, then the less conference teams in bowls the better-----Say we make a million dollars after expenses from the NOBOWL and ASU ends up with a $200K---- loss then I think they get that amount of our income and we keep the rest!! Hopefully somebody can add to this---I am almost positive that the NOBOWL folks can negotiate our take as they gave us more tickets last year to sell and keep the revenue from so if another Bowl comes knocking maybe we can get more money---also if we tell them that we really want NIU they can possibly give some money to the Mobile bowl to swap a team so we could get NIU---Again we need Farmer to come on here or somebody that knows!!!
Folks. The writing may be on the wall.
Reading between the lines.......Mobile doesn't want to let NIU get away....Tulane will not face embarrassment in the NOLA bowl....CUSA is going to stick North Texas in New Orleans.
Given the above rumors, if the good people of Shreveport come calling with an invite to play Boton College, Miami, or Georgia Tech, I think we say Yes to that, invade and conquer north Louisiana, and get a major program scalp to hang in Hud's office.
New Orelans with good opponent > Indy Bowl > New Orleans with bad opponent > GoDaddy vs. good opponent
Even if we beat NIU in GoDaddy, it will be buried by BCS coverage.
