Thread: Bowl Question-New Orleans specific

Most schools are eating $1,000,000 just to go to a bowl. The NO Bowl is phenomenal for us. I'm not saying we shouldn't take a shot at a ranked team, somewhere... but we also need to quit talking about "having" to send more than 10k to 15k... or else we failed. We'll cover our allotment. If we do better... great... and I'm all for campaigning folks to attend... but 12k fans is respectable for Mobile on a Sunday night after the holidays.
    This!

When LSU went to its first bowl after a long drought, everyone was raving that they sold 17,500 to the Peach Bowl.

The only question for UL is, do you want to make it lose money?•

I don't think it's a "better bowl" but if we want a "better bowl" to reach out to us, if we do go to mobile we better make damn sure we bring more than 12k to a game that's within driving distance against a top 20 team. I personally would rather keep owning Nola bowl until we can make an obviously "bigger bowl"

We aren't lsu or Florida... Even though Florida only sold 7500 to sugar bowl, they are still Florida. Also, there were way more than 7500 Florida fans there. They just bought through stub hub and ticketmaster. I don't blame them, those bcs bowls probably give the school alottment crappy locations. The best seats go to corporate sponsors.

Yes, but it gave them an excuse to get out of Arkansas. I heard many never went back.

It could be that we send 20k plus fans to Mobile. Considering all of the surrounding circumstances, I'm simply a little skeptical. As for the ranked NIU adding a lot more fans, I doubt it. The larger Cajun fan base isn't overwhelmed by NIU's ranking over other bowl venue factors. It's only a bigger deal to the core fans. But, from a resume perspective for our program, it's a much bigger deal.

I think you underestimate the draw of New Orleans over Mobile to our "outside the core" fans. And NIU being ranked is only attractive to the core. If we get stuck... I mean... if we go to Mobile... I do hope you're right.

    Just say Neaux to Mobile.

Unless we go there, then "Woohoo, Mobile!" ....

I don't underestimate it at all...I want to be in New Orleans and know that's the best place for us. If we bring 12k to mobile, that's pathetic and aren't any better than anyone else at traveling. Again, if we want a bowl to come after us outside of their contracts, we better give them a reason.

There will be a lot of significant others that won't be attending a bowl game that is outside in early January. Period.

Also a lot will not up a few days early. I would go up Friday to Sunday or go Saturday and stay till Sunday. Not like a lot who go earlier in the week till Sunday. Cc

I am not underestimating this number, there are thousands of UL alumni and disconnected fans in New Orleans and vicinity who go watch the Saints play 10 times a year.

Those same people will rarely if never drive to Acadiana to watch a game at The Real Swamp.

The will however never miss UL in the Super Dome.

They also won't drive to Houston,
Mobile, or anywhere else to watch in person.

For them it is Super Dome or nothing.
