75% of the participants in "better bowls" are not selling their ticket allotments (7500 to 15k). If we sold 15k tickets and sent 10k to 12k folks to Mobile, we'd be the envy of most schools. Most schools are eating $1,000,000 just to go to a bowl. The NO Bowl is phenomenal for us. I'm not saying we shouldn't take a shot at a ranked team, somewhere... but we also need to quit talking about "having" to send more than 10k to 15k... or else we failed. We'll cover our allotment. If we do better... great... and I'm all for campaigning folks to attend... but 12k fans is respectable for Mobile on a Sunday night after the holidays.
Another way of thinking about this is to try and figure out how many fans of schools like Tennessee or Mississippi State would bring to Mobile at Christmas time to play Northern Illinois.
I'm guessing we would bring more than they would.
The number of traveling fans of Large Conference schools is severely overrated for the most part.
From the BCS Sugar Bowl 2013 game regarding Florida Gators.
"less than 7,000 tickets sold from its official allotment of 17,500."
GoDaddy sucks, opponent might make it worth it, but the date, time, stadium, and weather makes this a very bad bowl.
