Thread: Better Recruiting

Nebraska would beat us on a recruit if their DC was David Duke.
The only thing Louisiana has on them is the proximity of family and living in Lincoln.
You guys aren't getting it, I'm sure I'm probably arguing with a bunch of white dudes..
    "It's just different".

"Recruiting is all about relationships. I do not think race plays a factor once you build that relationship; however, the relationship has to be built." My whole point is that a Minority defensive coordinator that has improved our defense needs to be retained. Other programs will come calling. He can give us a recruiting advantage, or at least keep us even with mid major programs.

You bring up toothpick? He was beaten at home by an average 1AA team, had questionable character and work ethic and doesn't belong in the discussion.
The overall amount of black coaches in FBS football is surprisingly small compared to white coaches. Of course the talented black player coming out of high school is used to being contacted by white coaches higher up the echelon in major programs.

31 black coordinators in all of Division 1, and you think you have a grasp on the argument? Check mate?
    read about it..
If you want to build a defense at UL, pay to keep Willis.

Btw, Jaevon Walton (sp?) decommitted from UL....wants to play for Nebraska. Who's the Defensive Coordinator there? A white guy in his 30's.
But the guy recruiting him is not the DC, but Kerry? Joseph, a young, black coach with ties to Louisiana.

Race does matter. That's a fact. Not saying you can't recruit as a white guy, but there are built in advantages that come along with being a young black man when you're recruiting.

From watching the game, it appears we run the same defensive scheme that 'Bama and Baylor runs against the spread (quarter, quarter, half) we just have to keep improving personnel. We feel the loss of a speed rusher like Emeka, and I'm sure the recruiting process is addressing this. Oh, and with having a smart, minority defensive coordinator, I hope they pay him comparably to other programs, or we will lose him after one season.
Continuity with assistants is pretty important.
We pay our coaches pretty well white or black. Hud gave him an opportunity to get back into coaching, so I am pretty sure he is being properly paid.

Picking coaches because of color sounds smart but is not. Colorado tried and failed, Mississippi State did the same. We got Baldwin a program killer, we got Jesse a builder, and Lee a great man who could not head coach.

You pick coaches just like you recruit players, on ability.

What also matters is getting out of this bottom feeder Sun Belt conference.

If you do not think it matters, ask Gerald Broussard or BasinBear who used to do this for a living!!

    Charlie Strong.
    Kevin Sumlin
    James Franklin
All young, smart, vibrant, minority coaches who are kicking ___ recruiting..
    Not a coincidence.
"We pay our coaches well white or black"-
They get paid the lowest salaries of any FBS program.
You want to be ACC level, or Big 12, or AAC, even Conf. USA right? That's what all the banter is about, so pay what they pay. Get the shovel in the ground and start building this dream facility. Great coaches recruit..there are some damn good coaches working over on Reinhardt drive right now..They have a good thing going.

And much of the talent he recruited couldnt get eligible to ever see the field. I do admit that some of the ones he did recruit were good players but not all.

Back to the point at hand. He is right we need better personal at the LB and DB position. What I do see is Hud, likes to redshirt unless your a sure fire like E. McGuire. if you are a younger borderline player, Hud will redshirt you which will pay big dividends on the back end. To be honest, the strategy has worked so far.the only place he has missed so far is on the JUCO transfers at DB.

T-Bine I think that it is time we lose this thread------No school can match the UL past and present records of relationships with the minority races---End of story and end of discussion before somebody misreads the content---Please lets eliminate this now!!!!
