Thread: Better Recruiting

    Default Better Recruiting

The "problem" we need to fix is that we simply need to recruit better football players, borderline SEC players that normally would leave for out of state. Recruiting has improved under Coach Hud, even though our football facilities are an eye sore. From watching the game, it appears we run the same defensive scheme that 'Bama and Baylor runs against the spread (quarter, quarter, half) we just have to keep improving personnel. We feel the loss of a speed rusher like Emeka, and I'm sure the recruiting process is addressing this. Oh, and with having a smart, minority defensive coordinator, I hope they pay him comparably to other programs, or we will lose him after one season.
Continuity with assistants is pretty important.

You are right and I'm sure you can always get better players but it still doesn't explain the performances against teams like TXST and Ark State versus teams like GSU and NMSU and how inconsistent they've been. There has to be something in scheme or prep that has changed their approach in those games.

    "Minority defensive coordinator..."

    Why is this even relevant??

why is it relevant? Seriously? Do you know anything about recruiting?
Having a competent, energetic, young "minority" coach can set your program apart...

I guess I know nothing about recruiting because I find what you are suggesting to be ridiculous. I'd like to think that race has zero to do with recruiting....

"Race has zero to do with recruiting"--
    Oh geez here we go.
So who will likely close the deal on a 3 or 4 star minority defensive back prospect, from say, Lake Charles? We are competing to sign this athlete VS teams like Arkansas State, Memphis, Colorado, maybe Tennessee-
    A) A middle aged white guy with 30 years coaching experience-
    B) A younger, black coach with SEC coaching experience, NFL playing experience, who shares more cultural relativity--
I don't know what fantasy world you're living in, but I'm banking on B.

I don't know. I'm not a coach and don't pretend to be, which is why I said "I'd like to think...". But by all means keep dropping all this profound knowledge on us.

Btw, Jaevon Walton (sp?) decommitted from UL....wants to play for Nebraska. Who's the Defensive Coordinator there? A white guy in his 30's.

it's NEBRASKA dude. I imagine you haven't seen their facilities, their NFL wall of honor, they play in a BCS conference, perennial top 25 program, 3 Heisman trophy winners, yada yada yada.
In situations where we have an EVEN recruiting surface, minority coaches can and will make a difference.
If you don't get the point now, I'm not going to get into the race deal any further. To quote the movie "Friday Night Lights" ..."It's just different".

"Friday Night Lights," quotes, I'm done. No further dialogue necessary. Explains a lot.
