Good place to start for the Lady Cajuns, they can work their way up the rankings.
Sounds like a little extra incentive to me.
LOUISIANA - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association released their 2008 preseason poll and Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns were ranked No. 24. The Cajuns finished the 2007 season with a 46-18 record and their ninth consecutive NCAA Regional appearance.
The Lady Cajuns finished the 2007 season unranked and battled injuries throughout the year.
Louisiana’s softball team once again faces a daunting schedule for the upcoming season. Thirteen of the Cajuns opponents this season appear in the inaugural NFCA poll.
The Cajuns play 19 games against teams receiving votes in the NFCA polls, including four games against the top three teams in the country.
UL squares off against No. 1 Arizona and No. 3 Arizona State in the prestigious Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif.
The Cajuns play a pair of contests against No. 2 Texas A&M in the 2008 Aggie Classic in College Station, Texas.
The Ragin’ Cajuns square off against No. 12 Michigan in a pair of tournaments. The Cajuns take on the Wolverines in Columbus, Ga., at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, before meeting up with Michigan again in bracket play of the Judi Garman.
UL was one of two Sun Belt schools to earn votes in the preseason poll as Florida Atlantic also garnered a vote.
Lady Cajuns softball team kicks off the 2008 season on the road at the Louisiana Tech Tournament. The Cajuns will face ULM in the opening round at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9.
The Cajuns first home game is slated for Wednesday, Feb. 20 as the Cajuns take on in-state rival McNeese State at 5:00 p.m. at Alfred and Helen Lamson/Ragin’ Cajuns Softball Park.
I am a little confused. The schedule on the UL Softball web page as well as the schedule on the McNeese web page tells that the game UL will play against McNeese on Feb. 20 will be in Lake Charles. Which is correct? The newspaper/SID information or the McNeese web page?
Checking both the Tech web page and the ULM web page for softball, I find that there will be three games played in Ruston at the Louisiana Tech Tournament on February 9 and 10th. On Saturday, the ninth, there will be one game at 10 a.m. against ULM, and one game at 12:30 against Tech. On Sunday there will be one game against Tech at 1:30. Tech will be playing four games, ULM and the Cajuns will be playing three each. I imagine it is because the UL teams are both SunBelt conference teams and they don't want to "show their stuff" this early. What do you think?
The article in Saturday's Daily Advertiser was a pretty good one, a little confusing, but a nice article. Confusing because the SID sent the reporter some misinformation. About the location of the McNeese game. I guess it is incorrect since both the McNeese schedule and the UL schedule state that the game will be in Lake Charles.
I am not sure where this reporter gets his information since a few days ago, he stated at the school was named SLI way into the 60's, nope, I believe it changed names in 1960.
It is not his fault that he got the location wrong, through, that was from the SID. Isn't it interesting to read this stuff and the Buzzer sounds in your mind when you come across something you know is incorrect?
