    Default MBB Recruiting

What do you guys think, generally speaking, of our recruiting? Payton is without a doubt Marlin's biggest recruiting success with Long a very close second but do we have a real shooting guard and or a real power forward. This may turn out to be Marlin's best year but Kande should be a power forward and Register a shooting guard. I have heard Marlin say multiple times that this is a guard's game. I disagree with him on this. We can't play with 5 guards unless they play like Michael Jordan guards. Actually, I think Davenport is a good addition to the team at least he scores a few points each night they play. I keep pulling for the Cajuns and perhaps we are making some limited progress but its still not Cajun Basketball. You could say there hasn't been enough time to truly evaluate but Payton and Long scored from day one. The other guys are good one night and don't show up the next night. Now look at the people we just recruited we could surely use a scoring forward / center and how about a real shooting guard but will these guys need three years to develop? It worked with Payton but he's a special kid. It seems most of the posters disagree with me on this subject but I don't think Marlin is a good recruiter - average maybe - good no! Especially considering his age and experience in basketball. We should be better this year but maybe Marlin is our basketball Buscle just setting it up for the next guy. Anyway, I wish the Cajuns well as always but we have to have someone else that can score besides Payton and Long.

Didn't we just snag three out of the top 13 LA basketball recruits? I don't follow basketball recruiting too much, but that seems good to me.

Was that LA or NOLA.area recruits? Also, I think we need to ask how good a year it is for LA players.

It's statewide I believe. There are kids from Shreveport and Alex on the list

This upcoming class has been a success. However, up to this point, I wouldn't grad Marlin very well on recruiting and I've been pretty vocal about that. Now, we need a couple of these guys to contribute next year, especially in the front court

Marlin has been decent recruiting guys 6'6" and shorter. Except for Long, everyone over that height he has recruited has been a major project. He has also done a decent job recruiting 'scorers', and a horrible job recruiting 'shooters'.

We are desperate for a couple of non-project 6'8" or taller guys, and for a couple of those Sidney Griders.
