I would ordinarily agree with that sentiment. However, at the Diamond Club meeting this past Thursday, Robe pretty much said that the Tigue would not be host eligible this year and that they didn't plan to put any money in this year's version of the Tigue.... More to come...
Ideally, outside sources could come up with temporary lighting as that seems to be the major issue. When someone mentioned that A&M put tables in the stands, Robe said, "...but you have to displace season ticket holders." So he didn't like that either...
That was the impression I got. Anyone got anything different?
As one of those ticket holders likely to be displaced it would not bother me. Gotta look at the big picture. Now with that said if the big picture means spending more time and energy on the longterm improvements that seem to be on the near horizon I can understand.
It also wouldn't surprise me to see an attitude change towards the end of the season should it look likely that the Cajuns are in position to possible host.
There is a much bigger picture involved, then hosting a regional. You can make 1 mil. worth of short term improvements and still not get the bid. Then your program is out of 1 mil.; the right decision here could mean being in the position to host a regional more often. There is something about to happen that is much bigger then temporary improvements.
A couple of points. As noted I understand the bigger picture issue and could see where we would want to focus on that but I don't think it would be a monetary issue as much as a resources issues. (i.e. peoples time & effort).
We aren't talking a million dollars in temporary improvements. There are a number of companies that specialize in temporary lighting systems for sporting events and there have been numerous schools that have used temp lights for regionals over the past eight to ten years. While accomodating the press wouldn't be pretty it could be done. Anyone at the A&M regional saw that last year.
I'll understand if Coach chooses not to pursue it due to concentrating on the bigger picture BUT painting it as out of reach or costing a mil is not accurate.
While it is a competitive bid process money is not the primary factor. Prove yourself on the field, provide a competitve bid, and "acceptable" facilities. The future looks great with the improvements we are talking about but I don't think we totally write off hosting this year either.
The most important thing is advancing in regional play, and we may be talking regionals a little early, but time and time again the home team regardless of seed has a better chance of advancing. So I tend to agree with you, getting a regional should not kill the bigger plans, and you never know when it might be your turn to get hot. Lets get whatever advantages we can, again you never know when a super regional host might get bumped leaving you in an excellent position.
Hey just wanted to remind yall that Tulane game is coming up at the end of Febuary on Wednesday the 27th. The new stadium is smaller and plans to be sold out. If your interested in going get your tickets early.
The best away games to go to are the S.Alabama and San Antonio. But I think Middle Tenn would be a good game to travel, near Nashville. I went there for the football game this past season and had a blast.
Oh and don't forget the game we play in Baton Rouge, its on a Tuesday night later in April. There are awhole bunch of us going, in war paint! Trying to figure out a good quote to make tee-shirts for that game. If yall can think of anything just let me know. I might also be making buttons..lol.
My friend has a quote, "My parents told me the same thing about Drugs and LSU...Just say NO."
In Rajun Cajun Pride
P.S. Its not too late to buy season tickets!!!
Us fans that are located in Houston will be there for the UH and Rice away games. I also went to Lamar last year in Beaumont, since it is only about an hour from me. I probably won't make Lamar this year as it is on the day that my son is supposed to be born!
