Maybe that was the number of tickets that were printed?

Only illustrates that we need to change the way we report our attendence. It seems everyone else is reporting tickets sold plus students attending while we are the only one's insisting on counting actual attendance. Why are we doing this?

Illustrates our need to get out of thus dump of a conference. We bring in these dregs that bring nothing to the conference who contribute little to nothing. Even at our worst in the Baldwin years we had better support than they showed yesterday. Yet the few fans they have on their message board consider us an overrated, middle of the road mid-major not worthy of being associated with the former GaTech night school.

By the end of the first quarter, I would estimate the attendance to be somewhere around 2500.

They have a huge student fee.....over 80% of their budget. Conferences don't give a damn about how you finance your Budget...only that you do.

What in the hell are conferences like the Suck Belt thinking by annexing these garbage programs? Because they have the "Atlanta Market"?? Georgia State isn't even worthy of being called an afterthought in the Atlanta market.

They have no choice but to go to the incubators for programs. I'm not really concerned that these programs report false "attendance" now that we have 25k to 30k routinely, and we don't have to lie about it. We are infinitely better off in that regard. The trouble is that even though we are winning right now, these teams with dismal attendance are competitive with us. And, we are still chained to a small athletic budget. Some of them have heftier budgets.

If we grow our budget to respectability, we will shake this nonsense. In parallel to our private system, I do wish we'd initiate student fees for athletics. I would even propose that UL develop a system that reimburses a portion of that fee upon graduation as an incentive for passage, and a reward for graduation. I don't have the space on here to explain it. What we need is some immediate, predictable infusion of money.

OK Jay then why (or how) do they report over 14,000? We have got schools poo-pooing our attendance figures when actually they are grossly over stating their own. stAte gloats that they were the attendance leaders in the SBC last year. How did they count their attendance. Obviously any school can count their attendance any way they want. As a result because we count ACTUAL attendance our numbers look very unimpressive. We end up having to qualify and explain our numbers which end up being just silly. Why don't we count like everyone else so we compare apples to apples?

I'm all for this. As a graduate student, I thought we paid an athletic fee already, among all the fees we pay. I just looked and was astounded that we don't.

I think tacking on a 50 dollar athletic fee to the one thousand dollars or so in fees a UL student pays each semester would be one that is justified.

I'm on UL Student Government. I'm going to see about introducing legislation for a student referendum on this. I bet it passes.
