Did you give him a pat on the butt after the interview to show that you will never act like a fan and question the gameplan?
Never mind I know the answer to that. If you would have we would have a thread on RaginPagin this morning pimping your latest blog about how much you enjoyed getting jaw jacked last night.
Every fanatic, of every athletic team, in every sport second guesses their coach from time to time. Obviously it was the right game plan bc the Cajuns won. Doesn't mean that it wasn't frustrating to watch as a fan.
Critizing and expressing my frustration from watching the defense give up third and long conversions are not the same.
As long as you have been around athletics you would think that you would figure out what fans will do.
You coming on here to critize fans is getting pretty old. Maybe you could take a small portion of all of the ___ kissing you give to coaches and athletic directors and share some of it with the fans that continue to support you over the years.
Critizing the fans that support the athletics that give you a job is wayyyy worse than a fan second guessing a winning coach.
Your right? He's right? They can't all be right! Fiddler on the roof. This thread is most entertaining. Geaux Cajuns!!!
You can be critical of a comment I make without making it personal.
Had you listened to the show, you would have known I asked him about the strategy of playing the three man front all night long. He answered the question.
Now, to those who think I'm just criticizing UL fans, I actually have been making this statement about fans in general for many years and the comment has traditionally been directed to the guys down the road. It was particularly true two years ago when they got to the title game and did nothing but _____ and moan.
I've been reading about folks here blasting the defense (and its coordinator) for giving up a grand total of four touchdowns in the last two games. I frankly don't think that's bad defense. In fact, considering our past, that's damned good defense and a very good plan.
Eight in a row. I've never experienced that. It makes me believe, while this team isn't perfect, they're doing a helluva lot right. It's okay to point out we need to be better.
But the way some folks go about it is pretty baffling to me.
Look, I've said this publicly. I've broadcasted a lot of BAD football over the years. I think every win is beautiful regardless of how it's accomplished.
You guys have a good Sunday and a fine open week.
Jay---It looks like Your forecast and my forecast of this year's W/L record will be quite q bit off----Well if we lose the next 2 I will be half right and hope I am very wrong---I said 7-5 or 8-4!!!
Jay, it just seems like you don't mind berating us as a fan base. I don't care about LSU or their fans, and I get tired of any comparisons, good or bad. You've acted like a bad attendance was "the fans". "The fans" that do attend are "the fans". Those people that don't show up are the "other people".
I'm no great fan by any stretch... but I take offense to the fact I travel from BR to every home game, regardless of weather, regardless of some difficult scheduling conflicts, have had season tickets for a very long time, pushed for RCAF and joined on day one, join up with my buddy who not only drives over from Houston every home contest, but drives back after the game (and a meal) the night of the game, so he's there on Sunday for his family. He's also a season ticket holder and a charter member of RCAF. He and I graduated in the 80s together and have never stopped being fans through thick and thin.
We never leave a football game early (and he wouldn't mind the head start driving back to Houston) and we are massively active in the stands. We are good fans. Just because we question our porous defense, doesn't mean we aren't. You make fun of us to the coaches. It's wrong.
We love being winners probably more than you. Questioning that defense isn't even in question. Our offense completely overcompensates for them. We hog time of possession. And to say we're not vulnerable deep as a result is a joke. Opposing coaches just eat our hole out with underneath stuff. Yesterday, it wasn't "red zone greatness" that stopped GA St. They messed up. And do you know why we're better in the red zone? Because 8 guys can't back peddle like unassigned extras any more, so they play real defense. Might that clue in someone running this defense?
Its hard to comment about the defense we've been playing when you're winning games because it makes us look like whiny fans who are never happy..I get that. I've been one fan who has been somewhat critical of our defense in recent weeks although I would have you know that I'm not "blasting" anybody. However, when you look at some of the statistics that have accompanied some of our recent games, you have to be concerned.
I kind of liken the defense and/or our defensive philosophy to that someone's kid that the parents are always telling them they do just enough to be average or just enough to accomplish what is expected of them. While frustrating to the parents, its hard to criticize them s they are accomplishing their goals to a degree. It seems we are calling our defensive game the same way.
The good: We gave up 21 points.
The bad: We gave up nearly 500 yards of total offense and had our defense out on the field for over 80 plays. All of this was to a team that was severely outmanned and doubled their rushing yards per game average in this game. We made it way too easy for the opposing QB's to make plays and get the ball out to receivers in the middle of the field.
My concern is that at some point is that this philosophy, should we continue to incorporate it, will hurt us in future games, especially Monroe. When we ran a 4 man front, we seemed to get some pressure on the QB and were pretty effective. We were playing so soft in the secondary that it didn't seem that having that extra man out there in coverage was really necessary as opposed to putting an extra rusher.
I understand the keeping them in front of us mentality and its hard to argue since we are winning at a record pace and will hopefully top it off with a conference championship but I guess I don't understand the soft philosophy all the time, especially against a team that you outman at just about every position. I'm not saying play tight, pressure defense with no help over the top to invite the huge play but I would think that we could do some things to really keep the QB unsettled. That's what they did to us for a good while there and I thought their philosophy worked quite a bit.
If we play such soft zone against Monroe, they will kill us with the bubble screen that they love to run so much. I truly expect Hud and Willis to know this and adjust accordingly but there are reasons to be concerned whether Jay likes it or not.
