Thread: UL bowl news still uncertain

  1. UL Football UL bowl news still uncertain

As much as the notion of a potentially 10-2 Sun Belt Conference-champion UL team facing off against a potentially undefeated Northern Illinois team in a postseason bowl game may be appealing to some, the reality of such a meeting coming to fruition faces a cornucopia of obstacles.

And while they are hurdles that perhaps can be overcome with the right combination of on-field success and off-field sweeteners as the 2013 college football season rolls to a close, there are no public indications whether or not an effort to put together the matchup is even in the works.

    "Whatever's best for our program."

I would lean 40% opponent, 60% fan attendance as the two most important factors.

    Besides winning that is.

What if CUSA doesn't have enough teams qualify, can undefeated Mac champion niu shop out there situation. Would they maybe elect New Orleans to not be in the cold after bowl games are meaningless and more prime time on a sturdy night of the first day of bowls. Godaddy isn't any more prestigious than Nola bowl. Just a thoight

Default Have we been Invited to the NOLA Bowl Yet?

I recall lots of folks commenting two weeks ago that the "for sure" invite to the NOLA bowl might come after our 6th win, but would "definitely come after our win over Troy.

I might be in the minority (in fact I know that I am), but I hope we go to a better paying bowl in either Shreveport or Houston (to diversify our portfolio for new conference consideration)

None of those bowls pay with cash, they pay with seats.

    Seats with inflated values.

ps I'm not talking about the small expense stipend.

I know its from 2007 but it still holds true today:

In Shreveport, the most a bowl-bound player can hope for in the way of entertainment is watching the river for dead cattle floating by in between attempts to sneak into the casinos.

I don't post on here very often, but can we get settled once and for all that the Independence Boewl and Houston are NOT better paying bowls. The New Orleans Bowl gave Louisiana a better financial deal than did the Independence Bowl last year. Schools at our level generate bowl income from selling tickets. If you don't sell your quota of tickets you make no money. The New Orleans Bowl allowed Louisiana to sell more than it's share of tickets and to keep some of that revenue.

If I am wrong on this, somebody please correct me. (Like I have to ask for that to happen.)

IMO if there is anything currently right now.its between the godaddy and nola. they were both at the troy game. they are going to ASU game. they both want UL vs NIU im sure, just who gets what compensation. The nola bowl would have to release the cajuns.technically releasing their 1st pick, or godaddy would release their mac tie in. neither bowl would do so without proper compensation.

If we have a shot at playing Northern Illinois we need to take it. Period.

I cant imagine from NIU's point of view wanting to go play down in the New Orleans Bowl against us. Hell, i think the Cajuns have become a feared Bowl Opponent to most.which frankly, I love.

or they could go back to the godaddy again and play arkansas state again. or come play the sunbelt champion in a dome early in bowl season at a higher viewed bowl game, in a much better destination city and easier travel with more flights coming in to new orleans. its all on how you sell it, let hud or tjoe do it.

I agree with this. I believe NIU would love to come to NOLA rather than Mobile, where they went just 2 years ago. The kicker is whether NOLA Bowl officials can offer Go Daddy enough money for them to release NIU, assuming they win the MAC. And whether that release money spent will at least make itself up in increased NOLA Bowl ticket sales for a sweeter matchup. If I'm Farmer, I'm using the last 2 years successes as leverage and pressure to convince Ferrante to want to make this UL/NIU matchup a reality in NOLA.
