Your brother (I believe) was a coach at Tech back then. There was much optimism at that time. U(S)L seemed to be on the upswing. You had some good ideas about how to incorporate Louisiana items to reflect the tie-in to the proposed UL name. I believe it was you who suggested we adopt the pelican as a mascot (before Tulane did this), with a pair named "Louis" and "Anna". I liked that idea, but unfortunately it didn't get adopted. Keep up the support, Wayne. I know it gets hard to do quite regularly.

Scott, It's been a long time. The LA Tech coach you referred to is Larry Dauterive, who is my cousin. Larry is a UL alum and now coaches at E. Ascension, I believe. He coached the QB at LSU, Perriloux. Larry was also the head coach at Fatima in Lafayette and also coached at Lafayette High. I haven't talked to him in a long time.

I was President of the UL Houston Alumni Chapter when I made the pelican suggestion, among others. Few, if any, suggestions were adopted or even responded to. But, I continue to press on. I also wrote to our new President, Dr. Savoie, as I have known him since he was the UL Alumni Director and forwarded him a copy of my email to Mr. Farmer. I suggested that he attend the Football Recruit Signing Party in February and he is checking his schedule to try and attend. I am optimistic that change is going to take place at UL with the new leadership. I guess I'll remain diligent to that end.

Wayne, do yourself a favor...do not let people know that you know that Fischer character. For that matter, if you want to really make sure you continue to be respected by your peers, you won't let em' know you've met me either...

    Mr. Farmer,

.... Address getting more business and community support. Seek better media coverage, particularly with The Advertiser, which should support UL first and foremost as its hometown university, much as the Advocate does in Baton Rouge. And, announce a plan to get more student involvement and attendance at football games, develop things that will turn into a tradition, and bring back former athletes to participate in all of this...
Tradition? Where could we start? How about we start with school colors. VERMILION and white. End of story. Now how easy was that.
