stAte is not an example of a bad situation. They had coaches move up & still attracted winners each time. What we want to avoid are the USM / LTUR scenarios. Top 25 year, coach depart, sub-500 seasons. That is a momentum killer

IF HE WERE TO LEAVE WHO WOULD GO TO WHERE??? HOW MANY FROM THE PRESENT STAFF WOULD BE ASKED TO TAG ALONG??? WHAT DID HUD HAVE TO BRING TO THE TABLE--HC SUCCESS AND I GUESS SOME SUCCESS AT MISS STATE----SMART---DILIGENT---GREAT MOTOR----LOVES TO COMPETE---LOVES TO RECRUIT---GOOD EGO/SELF IMAGE---REALLY GOOD MOTIVATOR AND PUBLIC SPEAKER!!!

This is the most likely scenario of any and all situations. The Floridas and Texases take head coaches from other BCS schools, they don't settle for coaches who haven't experienced winning at the BCS level. Charlie Strong (Louisville) would (will) be the next Florida coach.

Well for my 2 cents worth...HUD has atleast one more year and maybe two...win conference and win another bowl ...create more demand for his talent and $$$...you know we do have a great situation for this coach...as long as we keep upward momentum with RCAF and facilities, good recruits....no hedging on anything...who knows

No one should be given the job just bc he is here. I think he has earned and deserves an interview but it would be a disservice to the program not to see what interest is out there for the position.

110 years of promoting assistants from without and within was enough.

I hope when Hud finally takes over the AD slot, he will use the same criteria Farmer used in hiring a football coach.

Promoting from within has worked at Boise and TCU, but its not the only model for success. I think you have to look for the best candidate and if that comes from within then so be it.

Good point, and yes 'within' can work when the ball is rolling along nicely.

The problem for anyone coming after Hud is going to be trying to match that personality. HIs presence and his positive force of personality are largely responsible for the progress we have made not only on the field but in getting people to buy into UL and the idea that the admin finally "gets it". We need to keep that enthusiasm and support, as well as winnig on the field, going no matter who the coach is but it sure is easier with Hud.
