Bustle had three, 3-win seasons but I was just referring to 2010. I was refering to Bustle's last year and Hud's most recent.

    I wasn't clear, sorry.

We surely will offer to up Hud's income, on that you can bet your life if he equals last year. To do less would be an insult to any coach.
I think you misread my post. I hope they offer Hud all the money we can afford as he deserves it because he has been the most successful coach in school history. That being said a higher profile school can offer equal money but offer more in intangibles. Just ask any LSWho fan about when Nick Satan left for NFL, school matched $$$ and was a cake job because he owned the state but obviously that was not enough, Satan wanted more. Do we know what Hud's career goals are? I hope its to build a historically bad mid-major football team into a great football program as we move into a bigger conference and build top-tier athletic facilities all while graduating quality men. A lot of those are being accomplished here and that is great!

Maybe Miss St comes calling...a similar situation in the SEC in the state where he's from, I guess I'm just being ignorant.

Look i want to pay this man millions for what he has done and for what he has the potential to do with UL athletics. The reality is he will not stay too much longer, he will leave for a bigger school when they add a few zeros to the end of his check. As much as he likes it at UL, he will not stay and retire at this school. I want to pay him what he desires and deserves, but i do not want his salary to drain funds ad inhibit UL from hiring a top tier coach when he leaves. If we renegotiate his contract then we need to have expensive buyouts for Miss St and other big schools that he would like to go coach at.

Nobody will pay HUD 85 million dollars a year

  7. UL Football Re: Coaches salary

Dude you are suffering from CDS. Hud is not going to any just Power 5 team that comes calling. There are a few jobs he would take in a minute. We do not KNOW which of those jobs he views that way, and then THOSE schools have to be willing to pay what it will take to buy out his contract.

So the logic is to make sure Hud is happy salary wise, facility wise, assistants salaries. By doing this he is most likely to be very particular, and YOU are not draining the treasury by paying him. He is the driving force for what is goin on, and if he leaves the bigger the contract the bigger the buyout. We lose ZERO by doing what is within our abilities to make him happy.

Now please quit being the devise advocate just so you can post what you think is insightful views nobody else is thinking of.

If you add a few zero's to his current salary, that would be 85 million

  10. This is so COOL Re: Coaches salary

Ha, if you added a few zeros we are talking 850 million or more. Naw I would never pay Hud 850 million.

Your logic wouldn't have kept Hud after year one. I'm sure your exact post would have resonated then with someone else of limited comprehension. The money you think we have in an account that is available for things other than coaches' salaries does not exist. The money to retain coaches is raised. And many of the people willing to provide that money are explicitly donating that money for that purpose. They have the business wisdom to know their money is raising the entire table at UL. They don't suffer from the myopic view syndrome.

As for buyout clauses... without a doubt... we need to have much better buyout clauses for Hud, should we increase his salary. I see no reason he wouldn't agree to it. They'll pay a monster buyout if they want him. In reality, when an SEC school goes hunting for Hud, they actually want to pay a big buyout. It maintains their egos. We need to oblige.
