    I think you're right unfortunately.

But it would be a huge failure on our part if we didn't offer him well over 1 million. Hud is like an elite NBA player in that every team needs one to excel but there aren't nearly enough of them for every team. He's the type of guy that comes in and instantly makes your team better. And he's the kind of guy where if you lose him there's little chance you'll stumble upon someone as good as him. We can't afford to pay him but we certainly can't afford to lose him either. We may not be able to keep him no matter what we do, but we need to do everything in our power to try.

    This is true.

They pay you to come and they pay you to leave.

They also get on national programs like Tim Brando.

They get you invited to Bristol as a game day analyst on your bye week.

Higher profile schools are often in towns with a good amount of restaurants.

UL is weeks away from funding $126MM in athletic facilities. Paying Hud what he deserves is extremely doable. He's the catalyst behind it all.

Bustle was paid about $100 thousand per win.

    Hudspeth is paid even less.

Bustle had three, 3-win seasons but I was just referring to 2010. I was refering to Bustle's last year and Hud's most recent.

    I wasn't clear, sorry.

We surely will offer to up Hud's income, on that you can bet your life if he equals last year. To do less would be an insult to any coach.
I think you misread my post. I hope they offer Hud all the money we can afford as he deserves it because he has been the most successful coach in school history. That being said a higher profile school can offer equal money but offer more in intangibles. Just ask any LSWho fan about when Nick Satan left for NFL, school matched $$$ and was a cake job because he owned the state but obviously that was not enough, Satan wanted more. Do we know what Hud's career goals are? I hope its to build a historically bad mid-major football team into a great football program as we move into a bigger conference and build top-tier athletic facilities all while graduating quality men. A lot of those are being accomplished here and that is great!

Maybe Miss St comes calling...a similar situation in the SEC in the state where he's from, I guess I'm just being ignorant.

Look i want to pay this man millions for what he has done and for what he has the potential to do with UL athletics. The reality is he will not stay too much longer, he will leave for a bigger school when they add a few zeros to the end of his check. As much as he likes it at UL, he will not stay and retire at this school. I want to pay him what he desires and deserves, but i do not want his salary to drain funds ad inhibit UL from hiring a top tier coach when he leaves. If we renegotiate his contract then we need to have expensive buyouts for Miss St and other big schools that he would like to go coach at.
