Well lets see....
UL quietly, politely and legally changed its name in 1984.
LSU and mcneese squawked and demanded that we be forced to go back to USL. They got their way.
During the Cajuns Workd Series appearance the Cajuns politely asked The networks to refer to our team as UL.
LSU sent Turtle Thomas to _____ to the network and demand that they use the city tag. They got their wish.
UL politely sent out media guide info to media and our conference on how we wished to be referenced athletically.
ULM _____ed and moaned to the conference to refer to us with the city tag as they demanded. The conference gave into their incessent, whiney demands.
History seems to show that the old adage about the squeaky wheel has some validity.
Recently we vocally demanded that we be referred to as we wished not as ulm demanded. We got vocal, demanding and a bit obnoxious. Suddenly, while not totally where we want to be we have made headway.
So yes, Don, I think perhaps you are wrong. Because had we just kept quiet and continued to ask politely as we have been for decades we'd probably be in the same place we were a month ago being Lafayette-ed to death on ESPN
