IMO, the Advocate's Acadiana addition will be the demise of the Advertiser for better or worse.

The funny thing is the Advocate seems to be responding to the requests / demands of New Orleans readers with their Bew a Orleans edition. They are even responding to demands for coverage from the handful of Toolame fans in New Orleans. Yet they apparently feel no need to cater to the wishes of UL fans in Lafayette.

The editor appears to have taken a mostly hands off approach with Dan McDonald's article today.

I have known Bobby for years. He is a good guy and loves sports. We have had many debates over the years (most of them when UL was a terrible football team). He is taking notice as are all the sportswriters in the State. He likes to stir the pot and will not pass up an opportunity to do so.

---Oh yea I like him too and talked with him for about 20 years at OHS---But we all know what we don't like and that is his sneaky put downs of UL as he stirs the pot!!!!

It's not a debate. I want the same thing you do but it won't happen by demand. You can't demand respect - which is what this is about - it has to be given. Threats don't work well when you have little or no stroke to back it up. I don't think the rest of the state outside of Baton Rouge cares much about this issue so maybe it makes sense not to go out of our way to alienate everyone else - Tulane, Tech, McNeese, ULM - needlessly.

Any name change will have to go through the legislature, right? The legislature is made up of mostly lawyers and the majority of them graduated from - wait for it - LSU. You see the problem. The only way to make this happen is to convince the purple and gold we're not a threat...which we're not. They will always have more legal stroke, more money and by association with the SEC, more prestige. Fine. We don't want what they have. Convince them.

You, like everyone else (moanroe, kvetch, northwestern, everyone in Lake Cucked), have missed the point all of us and the University have been making. This is not about changing the name of the University. Nor does it have anything to do with a flagship status ( a claim or goal never made by THIS University ). It is simply about how we would like to be referred to for athletics.

As far as alienating kvetch, moanroe and Lake Cucked those _______s have been hating us for decades, long before the name issue so ____ 'em.

But Hammer, this is Louisiana. Don't you know that the university with the best football team is the de facto flagship of the UL system? Especially if that school is also called by a non-regional name, Like Louisiana or maybe Louisiana Tech?
