Thread: Redskins Football Will Soon Be No More ... Cajuns listed

All of the believed origins of the name redskins were originated by Indians themselves. How can a name be derogatory to a race when the name was created by that race as a name for themselves?

Finally, just as with moanroe's attempts to stop our use of Louisiana, how will the end of the use of Redskins by thus team better the plight of American Indians? Will living conditions on reservations improve? Will the high rate of alcoholism among Indians on reservations go down? Will the literacy rate increase? It just seams that there are a lot of much more serious issues facing American Indians.
You are right on all fronts. But you gotta realize...this battle is not for the everyday American Indian. If it was...they would look at it like you did...so many more pressing problems. This is a high level problem that will be fought by the highest levels of American Indians and others seeking high profile class struggles wars waged. It's always like this. It's just like the "I'm Cajun" license plate. To the layman it means nothing, but to some law maker it means a career move that he can point to when out stumping. Fights like this won't ever go away...there will always be someone to profit from making a mountain out if a mole hill. It's not a societal problem...it's a supply and demand problem.

I'm a huge Redskins fan for the past 45 years (that is where I'm from). Anyone that would use logic would know that Redskins could not have been a derogatory term when they were named such. Who in their right mind would name their own team a demeaning name, who would right a song "Hail to the Redskins" if they hated indians and thought the name was racist. Our politically correct, but upside down government cultivates these groups to fabricate something that offends them so they have a reason to live. Pathetic people with nothing better to do.....and that goes for the LaMorons and the LSU A&M at Baton Rouge babies. "If you mind your own business, then you won't be mindin' mine"..... GEAUX LOUISIANA RAGIN CAJUNS!!!

What I mean is that there are some in society attempting to be more socially acceptable. They're trying to come off as better than the rest of us...more correct...more politically correct. And all of a sudden, names that were originally taken out of pride...and meant to honor...are being attacked and their meaning twisted to make some look better than others.

    It's sad...and it's out of hand.

I agree...the only problem is...each time they go there...money is always behind it. No one does anything these days without the promise of coin. Whoever is challenging this Redskins nickname is looking to make this into a career. Think Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.
