Girard Park is only like 15 Acres, how small of an Athletic complex would that be?

Could put one hell of a parking garage there though! Lets just keep it a park!

It will be a little bit bigger than Olivier Parking tower. It holds a little over 900 cars if I remember correctly.

They started placing auger cast piles this past week. This is a photo of the rig set up to do a battered (or tilted) pile. Battered piles are used to resist lateral loads. It looks like a ten degree batter.

This is a photo of a trench they excavated to run electric conduit. This is typical when excavating in a developed area. There are three phone cables and the rectangular shape in the middle of the photo is concrete that encases electric or telephone cables. They encase electric cables in concrete dyed red. This is used as a warning to anybody excavation in the future to let them know there are electric cables in the concrete. It protects the cables and it prevents any future excavators from getting killed.

They have finished installing the auger cast piles and are well on their way with the foundation. Pretty soon we will be seeing precast concrete sections like the ones that were used for Olivier Parking garage. It will be easier to see progress once this gets started as up until now everything has been underground.

This is the foundation work as seen from the sidewalk between Oliver Hall and Rougeau Hall

Getting ready for some heavy lifting. This crane will be used to lift and position modular precast and pretensioned concrete components.

Elevator pit on the north west corner. Fletcher Hall is to the rear.

Steel frame for some class rooms and engineering labs (I think). This is along the Lewis street end of the building.

Foundation just about ready to accept precast concrete modules.

A view from the top of Olivier Parking Tower.

A conceptual image of what the parking garage will look like. This is what they project it to look like from McNaspy field.

The first few precast modular sections of the parking garage showed up on the site yesterday. I'm thinking they will start to place them today (4/8/14). Lets see how long it takes for them to complete the erection of the precast modular sections.

Helmut: do you know if there are also plans to start building soon the parking garage on the former charity hospital site (catty-corner from Olde Tyme Grocery)? I wonder what other parts of the Master Plan, if any, are also going to be started anytime soon? (Like the covered walkway between the library and Billeaud Hall.) Where we would find that info? Thanks for all your great posts!!

I'm no HelmutVII, but I don't think there's any concrete construction plans aside from what we're already doing.

Thanks rebel. That's what I thought, but you can't help but want for the train to keep on rolling, lol

I am confused as to where the access points for the garage will be located: if you look at the rendering above, it seems as if it will be in the rear of the garage. I also just drove by the site and cannot see any drive-way access points from the front (Lewis St) , or on the sides ( between either Rogeau or Fletcher Halls). Maybe they'll come later???? But if it is to be in the rear, would you enter from Girard Park drive? And if this is the case, I don't know how that would work once the additions to Oliver Hall or done. If anyone has any info on this please share....thanks!

I don't have a clue as to what the answer is. However, I would be shocked to learn that an entrance to this parking garage was not included in the design of the project! Come on now, do those of us that frequent these message boards really think we must be made aware of every single detail of every single project that our University constructs? From the construction we have seen taking place at UL over the last few years, I think it is fairly obvious that someone has these things under control (other than maybe the construction of the softball stadium).
