But i thought Monroe said that it was illegal? Are they now asking to break the law as well?

So ULM has no argument then.
They too have requested it and used it on their uniforms/helmets.
It will come down to who grabbed it first and ran with it and who is the winner on the field of play.

If they are serious, it seems like Eminent Domain would kick in.

ULM and the SBC would owe UL usage compensation.

Which is why this is a forced race to the bottom of the identity barrel and ULM should be ashamed.

So article discusses "acceptable compromise"...what compromise could be remotely acceptable??

Best compromise: ULM becoming Monroe JC with only one program - A.A. in duck call manufacturing.

But, but, but Bruno said he wasn't interested in the name dispute.

    Well, isn't that special?

How is it that they change mid-year, mid-season?

Sounds more to me like the SBC getting involved and saying "here's what you do"

The clip below is from their official media guide, and brilliant marketing (I might add) so why change in the middle of the year?

How can the Sun Belt screw this up?
It is clear on each university's game notes:

Directly from ULM's game notes from 2013:

    WE ARE ULM:
In all references, please refer to us as ULM.
We are ULM, not Monroe, La.-Monroe, LAM, La.-
Mon., UL Monroe, UL-M, LMU or any other variation.
We are the University of Louisiana at Monroe,
    not Louisiana-Monroe.

Directly from Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns' game notes:

WE ARE LOUISIANA: There is confusion among the national
sports organizations as how to refer to the Ragin' Cajuns.
Our official name is the University of Louisiana at Lafayette,
but much like our opponents around the country, we simply
go by Louisiana when referring to our athletic programs. It
is the same situation at the Universities of Texas (at Austin),
Tennessee (at Knoxville) and California (at Berkeley), but
years of use and understanding by the sports media has
led to each of those schools to have their athletic monikers
being simplified and accepted nationally. Although we
proudly refer to our University with its full title for academic
purposes, we ask that you use Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns or
some combination of those terms, when talking about our
    athletic teams.

There is no compromise needed. Simply use ULM and Louisiana which each university specifically says in their game notes.

I see this as the compromise --they will get ULM which is pretty cool and we get Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns with some UL thrown in or not----But remember they thought they would come right out of the box and grab the UL/Louisiana deal before we could try to drop our Lafayette---Nothing to back it up with ---NOTHING--yet trying to steal it!!! Not size not demographics not endowment not ranking NADA!!!!
