My bet is around 1,500 - I'm not watching, but I hope that place is as empty as Kmart.

It doesn't matter. 40K + turned out to watch ISU and Miami (OH). The key is whether or not Shreveport turns out. Tech will sell their tickets. NIU will sell a quarter of theirs.

Man, I can see why they do not want to play Sun Belt schools! They sure are ready for the big time with that average. The LSU's and Oklahoma's sure better watch out with those numbers!!!

So you're saying we should be playing NIU?

PS You want to see elite take a look at LATEX's basketball attendance.

You can't make predictions based on NIU's home attendance. A far better indicator is their past bowl traveling patterns. They've had a couple of good seasons, a core group of passionate fans, and they'll all be forced to spend the weekend in town. In contrast, there's no past data to predict UL's (xx,xxx people expected * $$$spent/per person) + guaranteed ticket sales to project their anticipated enconomic impact.

It's also easily forgotten that it's widely accepted that nobody in this state has anything positive to say about shreveport, while the "snow birds'" primary interest is that it must be warmer, the casinos aren't run by Indians, and it's a traditionally historic bowl game.

It's probably safe to say, the bowl figured even if UL brought a large crowd, they couldn't expect any of them to stick around town and spend money, and the fact Tech already had the bid only increases that concern, because their core fans are closer and certainly only intend to make the bowl game an afternoon outing. It has been quickly forgotten that as recently as the MTSU game, nobody wanted an Independence Bowl. Personally, that has been my preference all along (but I've never been seen Louisiana north of I-10, and would like to cross the Independence Bowl off of my to-do list) But I can assure you, even at the final game when 6-6 was the best case scenario.everyone was dismissive of the idea that UL might be forced to play in shreveport.

Since bowls only care about $$$, ultimately it seems apparent the bowl committee thought UL was too much of a wildcard, and a small contingent from the midwest would probably spend more money in the local community than a second instate school who'd arrive en masse that morning with the intention of fleeing immediately after the game.

Louisiana has a history of traveling very well to post-season (ask the folks in Omaha or Oklahoma City if they'd love to have the Cajuns back). This is not a wildcard in the projections.

You all are comparing home games. How many did they take to their away games? That will tell the story.

Just wondering, what were our figures for our road games? And what was the pay out for each?
