LAFAYETTE - Tickets are now available at the CAJUNDOME box office for Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns softball team’s exhibition game against the USA Olympic Team. The Cajuns will face Team USA on April 19, 2008, at McMurry Park in Sulphur at 6:00 p.m., in a single game.
The game against the Olympic team is one of the feature games on the Ragin’ Cajuns 2008 schedule and is part of the Olympic team’s Road to Beijing Summer Olympics Tour.
Team USA features several former Olympic Gold Medalists, including Jennie Finch, Lisa Fernandez, Stacey Nuveman and Cat Ostermann.
The Cajuns have Team USA connections. Former Ragin’ Cajuns standouts Alana Addison (1999-2002) and Brooke Mitchell (2002-05) were members of Team USA. Danyele Gomez (2003-2006) and Becky McMurtry (2002-03) were invitees to the USA National Camp try-outs.
Incoming Cajuns freshman Ashley Brignac (River Ridge, La.) was a member of the Junior Women’s National Team, and started all four medal round games in last summer’s Junior Women’s World Championship. In the medal round semi-finals, Brignac pitched a complete game, four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts in the USA’s 3-0 win over Japan, which propelled Team USA into the championship game. This was the first win against Japan for the USA Junior Women since 1999, and Brignac led the USA team to their first Gold Medal in Junior Women’s Softball since 1986.
Tickets for the game are $15 and are available for purchase at the CAJUNDOME box office. There will be a designated area for UL fans behind the Cajuns’ dugout, but the area is not restricted.
