NATCHITOCHES — Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajun baseball team struggled offensively and on the mound in its first road outing of the season here Tuesday night, falling at Northwestern State by an 11-2 margin.
The host Demons (1-3) pushed across five runs in only one-third of an inning off Cajun starter Dan Reed (0-1), who was touched for five hits along with five earned runs.
After that, the Cajuns (2-2) had to play catch-up and never mounted a serious offensive challenge, being limited to nine scattered singles.
Louisiana’s runs came in the third when Bryan Sneed singled home Charles Redmond, and in the seventh when Dallas Morris had a leadoff single and scored on Phillip Hawke’s ground ball.
Northwestern, however, bolted out to a 6-0 lead after only one inning off Reed and reliever Bubba Olivier, and added another run in the second and two more in the third for a 9-1 lead.
