Robichaux says NCAA rules help shield problem, but knows enhancers do exist
Thursday's release of the Mitchell Report, which described a widespread culture of performance-enhancing drugs in baseball, was limited to the professional game.
But the report also carried a warning about the use of illegal performance enhancers by younger athletes. And UL coach Tony Robichaux intimated that it would be naive to think that steroids haven't been used in collegiate programs.
"I'm not saying that it's not in college baseball," Robichaux said Thursday afternoon. "That would be foolish. But I really think that the time these guys see it the most is once they leave here and get into the minor leagues."
Robichaux's had his share of players go on to a higher level, with 35 Ragin' Cajun players having been drafted in his 13-year UL career - and many more joining the pro ranks out of his 20 years of college coaching and off his teams that have won 726 games.
The minors, and eventually the major leagues, are completely different animals from college, Robichaux said.
