Thread: New Turf on Cajun Field

  1. This is so COOL Re: When will new Turf be installed

I'll bring some roundup, 409 and towels to the first game. That ought to take care of my seats and the tree that growing through the concrete last year.

I spoke to Gerald Hebert last night at the baseball game in which we ripped Northwestern St and he told me the contract has been signed and the work should start with in two or three days. He was not sure of the name of the manufacture.

I agree 100%. Baseball is supposed to be played on dirt and grass. I understand the need to move to turf to keep expenses down. But jeez, at least keep the dirt where it belongs.

I agree that the dirt infield is nice and traditional, however if you do that then you still have the problem of rainouts and dealing with the tarp. If we are putting this down to save on maintnance cost then you have to go with the all turf field and the dirt just on the pitchers mound. This way the only thing to maintain is the mound and never have to worry about chalking the batters box, draging the field or putting the tarp on when there is a chance of rain. Not to mention that these tarps dont last forever and are expensive.

While I really do not like the turf for baseball, I do think that it would improve our infield play. The turf would essentailly take out all of the bad hops on ground balls since there is little to no divits in the infield.

But I still love the smell of a baseball field. Grass all the way.

All you need is a little grass on the infield to play ball!

Just got an email from Lynn Williams the Equipment Manager who said that they just got out of a meeting with the engineers and they will be starting on April 17. Still doesnt know the brand name of the turf.
