As a member of the red dots, can you elaborate on their historical timeline?
    Thanks

It began in the early 80s.You mix $1 t-shirt rejects+ good friends + a road trip to UNO + adult beverages + a game being broadcasted back to Lafayette + a game winning shot by Alonzo Allen and you hane the makings of something fun.

Years later when the red dots showed up as a promotion sponsored by a car dealership and radio station it was kind of neat to sit back and watch it happen. Just a couple of knuckle heads having fun would have something that others would try to mimic.

PS: The t-shirts were in a clearance box at Good Hope Printing on Moss Street. They had printed red dots over misprinted t-shirt for a festival.

    UL Basketball Red Dot Club

    Red Bug-
I agree it has to be a spontaneous thing. It would be cool to see this thing revived, but it has to be from the "heart". We shall see if the tradition can be revived GEAUX CAJUNS!!!!!!

    UL Basketball Red Dots.....

I noticed at the scrimmage Thursday that a couple fans were wearing Red Dot T-shirts. I remember hearing something about how all the students would wear these Red Dot shirts to the games several years ago.

Was wondering if this was a membership club or if everyone could get one?

Anyway, the reason I was bringing this up is b/c I was surfing the SIU site and found a club that they have. It sounds like a cool promotion. Students get discounts and they come together to fill the stands.

"SIU students..Now is the time to join the best student cheering section in the Valley. The Saluki "Dawg Pound." You can sign up from 2-5 p.m. October 28, 31, Nov. 1 and 2 in the Arena lobby. The cost is $10.00 for a "Dawg Pound" tee shirt, membership card which is good for $.99 Bic Macs at Carbondale McDonald's and the best student seats in the SIU Arena."

A $.99 Big Mac is one hell of deal, even though I prefer Whoppers!!

Judo Maniac...I wasnt a Red Dot, but i say right next to them in the early 80's at Blackham...

Legend has it the white T-shirts with the big red dot in the middle were purchased at a sporting goods store on the discount rack....I am sure the "red dots" will correct me if I am wrong on this...

Those guys bought em up, and turned it into a really fun deal....

Trust me young dude...The Cajundome is much more comfortable than Blackham, but it will never, ever, be as wild, as loud, as crazy as Blackham...

u were born 20 years too late my friend!!!

    Ragin' Cajuns Re: Red Dots.....

A group of us had a serious talk about bring back the Red Dots or starting some sort of club for students at the basketball games. I don't think we can be known as the Red Dots because it would hard to live up to the expectations of being a Red Dot. Any suggestions?

Actually, what happened was a company was printing t-shirts that had been ordered and they messed em up (misspelled or something.) So, they covered their mistake in a red circle and gave the shirts away.
