We're trying to build a program and that takes money. As said numerous times in the past, the New Orleans bowl gives us the best chance to make the most money. Take this game, make money and add it to the bank account to keep climbing the ladder. There will be a time when we can get an invite and can afford to take another bowl game but that time has not come yet.
And people let's please not talk about playing LSU or how we could beat them. Arkansas and Kansas State are both nowhere near LSU's caliber this year and they dismantled us. No excuses needed, no sob stories, they fair and square beat us. We still have a long way to go before we can start talking about beating an end of season Top 10 team.
I sure hope the team and coaches are not thinking about a bowl game, like us!!! We need to beat Ark State tomorrow and that should be the main topic of the day and tomorrow.
The only "bigger" bowl that I think holds any benefit to the Cajuns outside of a BCS bowl is the Texas Bowl. They are committed to #6 Big Ten vs. #6 Big 12. The Big Ten isn't going to have a problem filling their slot. The Big 12 might be questionable but I think they have someone eligible.
There is a lot of football left but if it plays out like we hope we are aren't telling the New Orleans bowls to hold on while we wait on a shot at the Texas bowl.
See all of you in New Orleans on December 21st.
First of all we have not played the teams that will totally dilute our BCS ranking. NMSU, Ga State. Those two will be rank killers. Next we would have had to pass up a couple of other teams that are taking care of business, Fresno State, and Northern Illinois. And finally we do not play a championship game that would almost by nature help with a weaker regular season schedule.
I agree at least if we had won those games the possibility might exist, but even going 12-0 would make us a long shot waiting for a lot of help.
Again let's get off "Fantasy Island".
Lots of people want us to NOT go to the NOLA Bowl if a better bowl is available. So we know, or at least we should know that the SEC has a tie-in game for every team that is bowl eligible. Given that who actually believes for a moment that LSU & SEC would not have at least a huge leverage in who plays in one of those bowls.
UL will never play LSU in a non BCS bowl. It could happen if we had the Boise State/U Name Um tie in. That is about it.
Lastly I do not wish to justify my team by anything to do with LSU, give me Bama.
I don't see any other invitation coming at this point, UL will indeed take the NO Bowl invite. But let's make this clear and Jay alluded to this another thread, UL did not make any money off the NO Bowl last season. Once the SBC presidents voted to share the bowl revenue, and UL covered expenses there was little if any revenue left to pocket. I don't have those numbers in front of me now, but I was given them back in the spring. We aren't going to the NO Bowl because we are making money, but because its our only option at this time.
