Therefore, as long as we're in the SBC, the concept of money making and bowls is really not an issue with us. It is getting an invite. And there are many bowls that suck for us, overall, a lot more than the NO Bowl... all things considered. You will know when the elusive "prestigious bowl invite" is looming. We will be undefeated and ranked in the top 25 at the completion of the season.

That said... we aren't going to any other bowl this year. We are going to the NO Bowl.
With only two current bowl tie-ins, UL has really no shot at another bowl without finishing in the TOP 25.
Even in with a 10-2 season, too many factors would have to fall for UL to get looks from another bowl. That being said, eventually if the opportunity comes ,you have to look at the bowl. Why? First, as stated the NO Bowl is just about breaking even at best now. Second, to build your resume for conference realignment. We will not get credit for what has taken place at the New Orleans Bowl when it comes to conference realignment. Most teams don't have the opportunity to travel to a bowl 2 hours away from campus. UL will eventually have to prove it can travel and sell tickets regionally.Third, for national exposure and recruiting. The New Orleans Bowl reached 2.7 mil households, nothing wrong with expanding your viewing audience into areas you recruit like Florida.

Right now we are stuck, but hopefully in the near future we will get other bowl opportunities.

I think you and I are in agreement, post-wise. I do see the benefits of "certain" other bowls... for your particular reasons plus a few more. I just don't see us getting one of those invites without a near perfect or perfect season. I don't think all of our posters understand that. They keep acting like... "Hummm... is it time to accept a different bowl?".

The very next season the SBC decided to take most of the money above our costs.

So in theory if UL needs to sell 12K seats to break even, then the next 12K is split between the eight football schools. Thus we are getting about .125 percent of those 12K seat revenues, and the Hoax is getting the same while spitting in our faces.

Next year it will be split by 11 teams making it even worse.
---Cajun exp I could be wrong but I think that even before the money was split up among the rest of the teams that they took Cajun money and gave some to the Bowl teams from the Belt to help them make up the money that they lost!!! hell they could have just spent like crazy knowing their ___ would be covered by our revenue!!! This really sucks if I am correct!!!

Boomer apparently someone who knows said I was wrong, only the bowl teams share. I kinda do not remember it that way, but what the heck?

I am pretty sure that early on and maybe even now every football program in the belt had to buy some number of NOLA Bowl tickets to make it happen. But the revenue sharing started after we had such great success.

Only the teams going to bowls shared in bowl revenue. Note, I believe the sharing occurs after your expenses are met. Who knows how many teams will go to bowls this year from the leauge. Too early to make that projection.

OK Mike if I am reading this correctly and it hasn't changed only the teams that BOWL get to share revenue---Say we have 3 teams that bowl---2 lose their ___ off in revenue and the Cajuns make a ____ pot from the N O Bowl----the 2 pay what they can and still have expenses so they use our money to cover their costs----Now we take any money left over and split it up----OH yea that sounds like the US government----This is a bunch of crap---redistribution of income to the max as we not only split but have to initially cover their loses----WOW!!! I hope this is not correct!!!

All of this why we need that marquis mid-season game in NO, assuming sharing for that game is limited to the sports commission, UL, and the opponent.

My mom had a '76 Marquis. Man that was one big assed car to drive. Hard for a teenager to look cool in one of those tanks.

I love the Big XII..... but if we are doing a NOLA home game and keeping half or a third of the revenue, I want the Mississippi triumvirate; Ole Miss, State and USM. All those folks LOVE the Big Sleazy, and will come to the game in droves. Also, like it or not, our fans will turn out better for those schools than for Big XII teams.

Alternate one year playing in Nola against a team from Mississippi and one year playing at a place like reliant stadium in Houston against a texas team from the mwc or Big XII

This happened because we lost our top 25 vote this week. The only reason we were ranked so high was because of that vote.

We actually moved up about 10 spots in the computer rankings.
