I eagerly await the official position of the paper. If only every business could say, "that cockroach and ball of hair in your soup is not representative of our restaurant... it is the kitchen staff's work ALONE and not to be taken as representative of the restaurant". When a kitchen hack serves roaches in the soup, he gets fired." That was not just an "opinion piece". It was poorly organized and grossly inaccurate spew.

Again, I eagerly await the official position held by the DA... it better be filet mignon... on the house.

WELLLLL-I think I know what will happen in the politically correct DA---We have conferred with our readers, the board, the readers parents, God, ETC and in order to not create confusion and to be fair and for whatever reason we now will refer to the Lafayette located school only as Louisiana Lafayette and ULL---However after using Louisiana lafayette first in the Sports page we will allow Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns-----I will then go on to lead the fight for all subscribers and advertisers to shun the only Gannette that makes money---They better not go there!!!!!

All this attention is good for us. Every time anyone with UL is asked or has the opportunity to address this athletic branding name attack (which is the only point of true contention - our university follows the official name where it's required) we all need to turn the subject to our great football and athletics success, our campus improvements, our enrollment campaign, our athletic facilities improvements, RCAF growth, our endowment... and if anyone cares to ask to do cmparisons with ULM... we should define our differences through those metrix.

Our voice will boom over theirs in the branding name "contraversy". They are doing us a favor. "Thanks for the exposure ULM!"

No, we are the Cal and Nevada. You are the UCLA and UNLV. But, all 4 schools are highly successful and compete in their respective conferences. In fact, UCLA is not a satellite of Cal Berkeley and is an academic equal. If ULM would simply focus and it's own achievements and becoming all that it can be, you would be similarly recognized.

If they would only realize that it is us being ull and them being ulm that makes them seem like a sister institution. Anyone that would look at enrollment, city size, research dollars, academic ratings would automatically assume ulm is a small branch of ull. Louisiana and ULM seem like 2 separate institutions

Some great things are happening as a result of all of this coming to a head right now:

We are being solidified as Louisiana with statewide and nationwide recognition.

LSU no longer cares that we call ourselves Louisiana.

Lafayette and Acadiana are coming together like never before united behind the university.

UL's leadership has taken a firm stance on this within the UL System.

UL students and alumni are embracing their university like never before.

Watch all of this come together next week for Homecoming and on national TV the following Thursday when we break ground on our athletic facilities.

It is a great time to be part of the LOUISIANA Nation.

Default Re: Opponents View: ULL branding practice of losing 'Lafayette' violates law, creates false ima

The "root of the problem" is Dr. Authement's compromise that made Lafayette and Monroe equals on the use of the University of Louisiana.

The issue now is more about marketing/branding which can operate on the fringes of the law.

Can you imagine what would be happening if other schools in the UL System also decided to change their name to the University of Louisiana. (University of Louisiana at Natchitoches, University of Louisiana at Grambling, University of Louisiana at Hammond ...)

Neither university had the majority support from their alumni base to change their names, and the issue was essentially decided by their presidents.

This issue may eventually be settled in the legislature or the courts - what a mess - only in Louisiana.

Pretty much. Spent his time the Legislature as a waterboy for Edwin Edwards and John Alario. His name is all over the book "Bad Bet on the Bayou". He then tried to re-brand himself as a "new" reformer Republican and ride the "ethics" wave with Bobby Jindal in 2007, running for his old seat. The voters of his district trusted to put him back in so much, they instead chose Bobby "Don't arrest me for DWI because I'm a legislator" Badon.

I also sent off an email, vowing to cancel my online subscription if they do not support the name UL, Louisiana, or The University of Louisiana.

Advertiser admits error / false report about Authement

"While Dr. Authement did say UL needs to be careful, he did not directly say the school had gone too far. In the story, it is clear which words are his. However, a copy editing error led to an inaccurate headline. We've corrected it, and will print a correction in tomorrow's Daily Advertiser. We do strive for accuracy, and regret that error."

I think the story needed MORE pub, so the editing "error" was intentional.....
