Thread: 2013 Staking a Claim for Louisiana

  1. Default Re: UL Lafayette may have gone too far, former president says

Does Monroe Gannett still do the headlines?

I remember Josh saying something to that effect.

Now that we are in an interconnected and always on media cycle...the legislature cannot disseminate the real message of how petty and under handed this is. We do need to open this can of worms...and let the country see it in all it's idiotic glory.

People who claim to be "above the fray" in these situations usually end up having just as strong of an opinion as the side they're trying to discredit.

It's so simple. We are the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Call us Louisiana, or Ragin Cajuns, if you don't mind when refering to our athletic programs. If you do mind, then dont! There's no law issue with that request.

"University of" Louisiana is not allowed under the law unless the city tag is used afterwards.

    This is not hard. Right?

I really think that this is a Gannet scheme to drum up something to sell papers---I think they knew in Laf and MON what they were doing with the Tabby Cat and maybe Buckley and of course Pecker Decker---Sorry about the ad Homs but this does not have to be what they are making of it and can only hurt UL---Now they even bring back Dr RAY who is the equivalent of John McCain--just shut up!!!

He would love that. When someone takes the "enough already" angle like Mr. Decker, angry reader letters only serve to bolster his POV.

It's a great journalism trick. Don't respond, I win. Respond, and now you look silly.

Most people know that both Tech and ULM were political favors doled out earlier politicians, especially the placing of the states pharm school in northern Louisiana. We also know that between the two schools you couldn't make a decent mid sized college. If Louisiana really wanted to make any headway in education it would demote some of these small 4 yr colleges to junior colleges, or satellite campuses of other colleges. There is no other state that I can think of that has colleges in every bump in the road across the state. An ideal picture would be a combining of La Tech and ULM, a combining of McNeese, Nicholls and UL into one college, combining of LSU and Southeastern, a combining of Grambling and Southern into one and UNO and any others that I missed would be folded into where ever they fit. This would result in a great savings for the state and all schools would benefit from the savings realized by not having so many useless salaries.

Pipe dreams probably yes, but in an economic reality that most states are facing a pipe dream that should be explored

Dr A presided over the first name change if my memory is correct, and it got screwed up, plus he was a horrible college president. If he had not held the campus in the dark ages for so many years with his refusal to spend money on the basics such as lodging and parking there is no telling where UL would be today

To be fair in Dr Ray's comments--positive is that we should be UL and that it is legal for our athletic teams to be called Louisiana---negative is that we have to be careful and although he probably is correct some things should just be left out!!!

I saw the maroon version of this helmet on twitter. Jeff Horchak, a local sportscaster was retweeting this photo from a ULM loser. Its hard to get anywhere on this issue when the local media is not in support

Add LSUE and LSUA to the feeding system of UL!!! BTW--just saw where there will be thousands of jobs being added to plants in the S'West Louisiana area like Cameron Parish all the way to Jeff Davis Parish---ergo increased enrollment---and meanwhile along !-20 a dwindling demographic outlook continues!!

At what point in the article did ol' Ray say we "may have gone too far?"

OK--so this is solved by the following:::::: It has come to our attention that there is a battle brewing between 2 schools in the Louisiana system about name calling and the current law on the names of the 2 schools and their use ---so in all aspects we now demand that the name of the city location be added to avoid future confrontations---hell the ___ holes might even force us to go back to USL and N'EAST!!!! So frustrating!!! Never enhance the situation by a more prestigious name in this case for UL but lets see how we can stop their growth , recognition, and future research funding!!!

Ray A. and Ray B. Both stayed too damn long. Both cared about playing politics and being liked in the community than being aggressive to help our athletics stay competitive. To hell with both of them.
