No where is that statement valid.

"LOUISIANA" is a stand alone nickname and does not claim "University of"

I agree, its mostly a bunch of posturing. I guess its an attempt to get enough rednecks po'ed to start generating calls to whomever to stop us. problem is football in N LA is having such a poor showing she may have a hard time finding enough people who give a ____. Hopefully the effort will die a quick painful death

The name game between the University of Louisiana at Monroe and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette was originally intended to benefit both schools.

But now, it appears one of the schools seeks to establish itself as "the University of Louisiana" by dropping any reference to Lafayette in apparent violation of the state law that established the University of Louisiana system.

The law is very clear on this.

The only time you have to use "Lafayette" is when you precede the word "Louisiana" with the phrase "University of"

Other than that instance, the stand alone word "Louisiana" make no claims.
