The teaching and experience they get under Robe is pretty darned valuable and when you add to that fact of getting your education I think it would take a lot of $$$'s to lure them away _
apparently Griffen was offered a lot of $$$'s, but he came anyway.

Just looked it up, Travis Whipple is a Red Shirt Freshman

Seriously I think he was talking about the draft taking some of the kids we signed for the 08-09 season school year. How good could that be if they show up? _
Not too sure, Arnold. He also could have been talking about the guys that will be Jr's this year. There's currently 11 of them listed on the Fall Roster, including Hawkins, Farquar, Matt Hicks, B Lafleur, and Wilborn. I think I mentioned before that Wilborn will have surgery, so really only 10. You know, Arnold, if I were him, I would certainly be worried about Hawkins being drafted, and maybe one of the others if they stepped it up huge this year. Maybe Farquar, but he's a little slim and not sure if he would get enough of a look this year to warrant him leaving.

So, after that little analysis, and after remembering some of the things about the signee's they announced a couple weeks ago, there's a pretty good shot that h emight have been talking about some of his recruits being snatched form him. And you're right about one thing Arnold, that would be pretty cool if they don't go and choose to come here.

From what I heard, Griffen could have been drafted as high as the 5th round and he turned down around $50,000.

Experience under Tony will get him more than $50,000 in 3 or 4 years.

I thought it was more than $50,000.

Hopefully, our new class of signees follows Griffen's lead. I think Lucroy getting drafted so high after not even really getting recruited out of HS, helped with Griffen not taking the $$$$. It will probably help with our new signing class as well. It's shows that Coach Robe and the other coaches develop talent and get the most out of their players. Who wouldn't want to play for a coach like that?

John, here we go again with the Arnold? John, professional football is the equivalent of being a prostitute. It goes from the city John down to the last player, coach, and owner. For you, John, to back a particular gal only means you consistently get the ugly duckling as they strut their wares.

Love the Saints til the day you die, but you can bet at some point not to long from now they will be loved in a state and area other than an area know as MISS ALALOU Gulf Coast. Well John go drop a couple of hundred for an afternoon at the Dome. You know you will feel dirty after that thinking you should have dropped it on your Ragin'Cajun family.

    Griffen turned down $500,000

Robe is worried about Hawkins, Harmon, Farquhar, and Wilbourn getting drafted. Now that Wilbourn is having surgery this will change.

Nice job on the recap--I think you captured most everything. Here are a few other tidbits I think I heard (was working too):

Spring semester transfer, who is a middle infielder, from a Florida JC.

C Griffen may pitch in 09, too much to ask in 08 learning C position and pitching system.
    Gabe Begnaud=Greg Becknell

I understood Fr Tyler Benzel was at 3B, Robe seemed really high on his offensive abilities.
Robe seemed cautiously optimistic that Josh Logan could have a break out year--really likes his improved approach at the plate.

One name I did not hear was RS Fr Dane Maxwell (P). Last year Jay/Robe seemed high on him, but I am not sure how he fits into this year.

I've come to believe that most other coaches oversell their recruits abilities. My sense is that Robe will call a spade a spade and based on my perceived enthusiasm from Robe about the young guys already here and those coming in Fall 08, it seems Cajun baseball is the one mens sport where we are reloading as opposed to rebuilding after a successful run.

Did you put that "yeah right" smiley faces on my post? I don't even know how to make all of those little things. I was totally agreeing with you, it should have been one of those yellow smiley faces with the cool sunglasses, or one of those other red faces with the fist pumping. Seriously though, I was just giving you are hard time with the Arnold stuff, mainly in an attempt to bring some humor to it. Honestly, who respects anything that kevin foote ever says? And, I've heard your prostitue analogy before. And then coming at me for giving my money to the Saints over the Cajuns? to be honest, I own very few Saints items, I own 10x more Cajuns items. Second, even when I was a Saints season ticket holder when I was in school, I never let that get in the way of my Cajun love. Still tailgated all day and went to games, even though I had to get up early the next day to go to NOLA.

The Cajuns, and all college athletics in general, come before Pro Sports of any kind in my world.

Sorry, did not mean to put anything in your quotes, my boo boo.

Man I was just trying to get in the spirit of things. I gotta admit it took me a few minutes to figure out the Arnold angle. Absolutely no harm meant or taken.

You know Kevin Foote begged off when challenged and said he did not want to talk about the Arnolds, dead subject. This year I heard him again just shows how he likes to throw out the stuff, but really does not want to debate it when called.

From what I remember at the time of the draft, they talked to Griffin about being drafted in the third round and offered him a $650,000, with the family wanting $800,000.

About the pro's, he was referencing the signing class for next year, not any of the present personnel. Baseball can sign them after High School, but if they don't sign then they have to wait until junior year or a certain age (I think 21) to be draft eligible.

Coach mentioned the high degree of freshman on the roster (especially pitchers) is due to the expected loss of so many players in NEXT years draft, where we'll lose Moody, Glass, Solich, Zorich, Logan, Gisclair, Hatfield (all seniors) and Farquar and Hawkins (draft eligible juniors).

T.J. Gros is a senior but will be a medical redshirt, and Greg Wilburn would have been a draft eligible junior but will also be a medical redshirt (tommy john surgery).
