ACADIANA - Each week Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns football coaching staff honors its outstanding performers from the previous week’s game by designating them as Players of the Game.
This week’s Offensive Players of the Game awards were given to Connor Morel and Deon Wallace. Morel stepped in on the second play of the second quarter for the injured Michael Desormeaux. He rallied his team to a 38-28 victory at Florida International. He led three touchdown drives, throwing his first career touchdown pass which gave UL a 28-21 halftime advantage. Morel finished the night 12-of-15 passing for 125 yards and added 14 yards rushing. Wallace had one catch for 17 yards and a touchdown, and added 11 rushes for a season-high 88 yards and one score.
The defensive player of the game was Lamar Morgan. Morgan had a season high 10 tackles at FIU. He boasted 1.5 tackles for loss and recorded a sack, force fumble and fumble recovery all in the fourth quarter to help the Cajuns stave off FIU.
This week Spencer Ortego was awarded the Special Forces Player of the Game. He had 4 punts that averaged 43.5 yards per punt, including a long of 49. Ortego managed two punts inside the FIU 20-yard line.
The Offensive Scout Team Players of the Week were Brad McGuire and Ryan Plummer.
The Defensive Scout Team Players of the Week were Richard Brooks and Ross Goodlet.
The Cajuns honored Grant Fleming with the Hammer Award for defensive biggest hit. The Kuhuna Award for special teams biggest hit went to Antwyne Zanders.
