I'm seriously ready to move past the "Hundley era" in Cajun football.

MD was a good fit following Babb. He had field experience, and he won the starting spot. His skills fit the spread offense. He and the offense looked good against SC and Ohio. Ohio was a poor defensive effort. If the McNeese game triggered Hundley leaving, so be it. I think he was just unhappy knowing he wasn't the starter, in his home town, after beng heralded as the #28 pro style QB nationally out of HS.

Now, had he stayed, who knows if he wouldn't have gotten the nod later in the season, or at least a shot, or played in place of an injured MD. He may have caught the eye of Munoz this year. Maybe he would have been at the helm in our upset victories over Kansas State and Illinois. Who knows? We will never know now.

But, John decided to quit the team. Is he the only one that has a right to complain? He left his fellow team members hung with a bad loss to deal with without him and left our program short one QB the rest of the season.

I can move on. I hope he can. I thank him for initially giving the Cajuns a shot. We picked him and he picked us. I hope he stars a NW State. You heard it here. A Cajun fan said that he hopes John Hundley is a tremendous success at NW State! No more Hundley talk for me.

Because, while he is not exactly Steve Spurrier, Stoker has been known to be a little tough on his Qb's.

From what I heard, isn't Hundley more of a drop back type passer and his skills are best suited for the spread option type offense?

He was heralded as a Pro-Style QB, whatever that means.

I think he didn't get his shot this past year because MD was simply more mobile and was the better fit for this scheme. However, who's to say what would have happened next year? It's clear that Bustle wants to pass more. He was able to that a little bit with Anderson, but the offense was nowhere near balanced. He's obviously trying to do it again with Munoz. It will be interesting to see what this guy wants to do with the team this year. I think that if he wants to move MD to a different role, and start one of the RS Freshmen at QB, then Bustle might go for that (unless he thinks that it might cost him too many games by starting a Freshman). but, the fact is, the decision to do that would have been much easier to make if you had a John Hundley, who would have gotten game experience this past season, and had an extra year in the system. I hope that he eventually doesn't regret his decision, and that it was well thought out and not made hastily.

Well they were 4-7 last year with tough loses to Northeastern, Texas State, Ole Miss and McNeese...

They got blown out by Northeastern, Texas Tech, and Sam Houston State.

Looks like quarterback play was average so I say he has a shot to play early. Germayne is a Junior this year so he has an inside track.

You do not replace a leader like Des with an unknown quantity. Barring serious injury Des will be the starting quarterback in 2008. Let's focus on the real problems this team had, defense, special teams kick offs, and the punting game. We take care of those elements we might run the ball 90% of the time.

I agree with that, but the point I was trying to make was that if Hundley was here and became a leader, and was able to prove himself, especially if the new OC felt that the team could improve with him and MD on the field at the same time, then he could have gotten his shot.

But you're right, there are areas of our team that need a lot more work than our offense.

You forgot the Nicholls game. Nicholls blew them out 58-0 and really sealed the deal on their QB situation that game. All three of their Qb's got hurt in that game and they ended the game with the second team Qb back in the game playing on one leg. He couldn't hardly move and about all he could do was hand the ball off. Nicholls tied the NCAA record with four ints returned for TD's in that game.

First team Qb hurt his wrist. The second team Qb hurt his leg on a weird play where he didn't even get hit. He was rolling out (or scrambling, don't remember) and then just dropped the ball and fell to the turf holding his leg. Nicholls recovered the fumble. The Freshman third teamer got his shoulder hurt later and they had to put the 2nd teamer with the hurt leg back in.

Dosen't the new ncaa rules mean he has to sit out this season. Meaning he would only have one year to play?
