UL's Long Recognized

USA Today Sports has named UL big man Shawn Long its Sun Belt Conference Preseason Player of the Year in its College Basketball 2013 national preview magazine.

Long also was named to the magazine's Preseason All-Conference First Team, along with Payton, South Alabama big man Augustine Rubit, Texas State forward Joel Wright and Western Kentucky guard T.J. Price.

That's nice praise for Long but it should be Elfrid Payton.

Shawn is looking good, he has dropped some weight and has gotten into shape. The combination of Payton and Long will make for an exciting season, but I agree Payton is still the best player on the team.

EP will make Long the conference player of the year. Typical point guard that is not the primary scorer.

EP will lead the team in steals, assists, not scoring.
