DENVER – Louisiana’s volleyball team earned the Sun Belt Conference Team GPA Award for the 2006-07 academic year, according to a league announcement prior to the start of the conference volleyball tournament.
Louisiana earned a 3.4 team grade point average, while every scholarship student-athlete on the squad earned a 3.0 GPA or better, for 2006-07.
“My focus since day one has been the team’s academic progress,” Louisiana head volleyball coach Amy Kraljev said. “After graduation, most don’t go pro.
“They become executives, doctors, lawyers and leaders in the community and that’s the most important to me.”
In July, seven student-athletes were named to the Sun Belt Commissioner’s List, which honors student-athletes recording a 3.5 GPA or better during the 2006-07 academic year. Two more student-athletes were selected to the Sun Belt Honor Roll, which honors student-athletes recording a 3.0-3.49 GPA during the academic year.
“I’m proud of the team,” Kraljev said. “They aren’t only expected to give their best on the court, but they know just as much – if not more – of an emphasis is placed on their academics.”
