Paul D. Dugas, age 38, passed away Jan. 13, 2003.
The son of Ed and Marilyn Dugas, he is survived by his daughter, Nicolette, age 13. Paul was the second oldest of five children – all University of Louisiana grads, the remaining four are all teachers.
A graduate of Carencro High School, Paul was active in student activities and lettered four years in Cross Country and Track and Field. He earned a B.S. in English and Journalism from the University of Louisiana. During his senior year he served as Editor of The Vermilion (Weekly Student Newspaper, often referred to as “The Verm”). Paul served in the Marine Corps Reserve and received numerous fitness awards.
Paul loved the outdoors, especially fishing. He was a talented (self-taught) musician – singing, playing the guitar and harmonica, often involving all three. He and his brother John provided entertainment for family gatherings and special events.
After employment with Paul Hardy, Lt. Governor, and Sides and Associates, Paul completed Law School at L.S.U. and practiced law in Lafayette.
Paul loved competition! Therefore, the scholarship will be based on academic achievement, financial need, and a written expression of the Verm during Paul’s year as editor (1986-87). The scholarship will be open to all undergraduate students.
