The Lady Cajuns inked six players to national letters of intent, including five high school prospects and one junior college transfer. UL – Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns head women’s basketball coach Errol Rogers officially announced his first commitments during the NCAA’s early signing period. The Cajuns inked six players to national letters of intent, including five high school prospects and one junior college transfer. Rogers is in the midst of his first season guiding the Ragin’ Cajuns. Six scholarship seniors are currently in their final season with the vermillion and white, meaning Rogers has completely replenished his talent. The Cajuns landed a pair of post players in Mercedes Johnson and Amy Richard. Johnson, a native of Houston, Texas, comes from Langham Creek High School. The 5-foot-11 post was a first team all-district selection for four years and on the All-Greater Houston team for two years while averaging 15 points and 10 rebounds per game for the Lobos. Richard, originally from Opelousas, is one of two local players recruited by Rogers. The 6-foot-1 post will attend Louisiana-Lafayette after finishing at Fullerton Junior College this spring. Richard prepped at Rosary High School, lettering for three seasons in basketball for head coach Richard Yoon. She guided the Royals to three straight Serra league championships. RHS advanced to the state semi-finals each year and Richard was named the RHS athlete of the year as a senior. The Cajuns other local signee is point guard Becky Hall from Lacassine High School. The 5-foot-3 Woodlawn native played for the last two seasons under Cardinals head coach Eddie Michalko. Hall is a two-time all-district and a two-time all-state selection while averaging 12.5 points, 6 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4 steals per game. She is also a multiple letter winner in cross country, softball and track at LHS. Rogers signed a trio of guards in Michelle Brunker, Nicole Morris and Krystal Motley. Brunker attended The Bishop’s School in La Jolla, Calif. The 5-foot-8 guard led the Knights to an 11-0 start last season averaging 19 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, 7 steals and 1 block per game before missing the next 14 games with a knee injury. Brunker, whose father Michael coached at the University of Detroit under Dick Vitale and then later with the Detroit Pistons, has recorded five or more steals in 27 games over the last two seasons. Morris and Motley are both products of the Houston area. Morris currently resides in Cypress, Texas and attends Cy-Fair High School. She helped her team to back-to-back district championships. Last season, Morris was named to the all-district team, in addition to being the Bobcats defensive player of the year, as CFHS was a finalist for the state championship. She has been invited to the Adidas Top Ten Camp in each of the last two years. Motley currently preps at Mirabeau B. Lamar Senior High School. She led the Redskins to the playoffs last season en route to her second consecutive first team all-district honor. Motley has shot better than 55 percent from the floor each of the last two seasons.
