Sorry Turb, I do not want to be associated with a reptile even if he has lived on this planet longer than the dinosaurs, and mammals put together. _
No offense to anyone who has one but, imo, the catahoula is the ugliest dog i've ever seen. It doesn't look mean like a pitbull, and it definately isn't cute like a bulldog or a lab. Just cause its the state dog doesn't mean anyone outside of LA will associate that ugly dog with Louisiana. Unless they think, "man that's an ugly dog, it must belong to some hick down south livin' in the sticks." But that's a negative association, but i digress. I still say that a crawfish mascot would be perfect. When people see crawfish they think cajun. That's what I want. When someone says Louisiana, I want them to think Ragin' Cajun. I don't want someone to say Louisiana and the first thing they think of is "hmmmm.....mangy dogs?" Like I said, I'm not trying to offend anyone who has one, but can't we find something that symbolizes both our Cajun herritage and our state?

I could see us having that dog on the field an our AD having to explain to the PETA protesters saying, "No, really...We are feeding him.....Yes...he has a 24 hour vet.....He really is supposed to look like that."

You shouldn't have narrowed it to just animals...You should have included vegetables too.

You got it, Vermilion Red BullGators are at the top of the food chain ... in other words, they are inedible.

The old man you are refering to is "Cajun Man." I agree with you he was pretty cool. It was good to see the chicken the other night and I really wouldn't mind him being back either. But my top two choices are pictured below.

Cajun Man looks a lot like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins. He ain't my kind of mascot. Peppers are hot, DVD did not date hot chicks except for his hot wife in the Dick Van Dyke series. Gators spit out peppers, peppers are hot. Long life the pepper. Now if we can just find a way for him not to be a phallic symbol.

I agree drumroll. Meet Fideaux (or the name of your choice)

I like the Gator. We could build a sanctuary of some sort around the athletic complex and actually have two gators, a male and a female. One would be called "Louie" and the other "Ana", both short for Louisiana as in The University of Louisiana". Just another way to capture the "Louisiana" name. UCLA does something similar to that with their Bruin mascot.

True, but on the brighter side of things, i think we now have a good idea of who, I mean what, they should be fed.
