LAFAYETTE — Louisiana baseball fans know the biggest Tony Robichaux-ism there is.
Don’t give up the three-run inning.
Southwest Texas State did that twice here Saturday afternoon, and the Ragin’ Cajuns were the happy recipient in sweeping a season-opening doubleheader at “Tigue” Moore Field.
The Cajuns bolted in front 5-0 in each game and then turned it over to the pitching staff, which did its job on the way to a 5-2 opening win and a 5-3 nightcap victory in front of 1,736 well-chilled fans.
“The scouting report on Southwest Texas was to stay away from the big inning,” said Robichaux, who needs only four wins to become the Cajuns’ all-time winningest coach. “They’re a club that can score a lot of runs if you give them a chance. We both had chances to win in both games today, but our pitching staff did a great job.”
Louisiana (2-0) scored five runs on five hits in the first three innings of the opening game, and Phillip Hawke’s three-run homer capped a five-run third inning in the seven-inning second game.
What disturbs worse than you know is the white "Lafayette" on the front of that hat.
What the hell?
