He returned to Philly back in 2001 with his kids during the NBA Finals. This was not his first visit back. For the record.
I remember on the old sign at the corner of Congress and Bertrand when we signed him---it went something like this----Remember this name Andrew Toney!!!!
Best basketball player in UL history.
Better scorer does not mean better player. My vote goes for Toney.
Slap...I think we agree. Bo was the best scorer ever to play here. Andrew was the best overall basketball player we've ever had. He could do it all.
One thing I remember is that he was faster down the court WITH the ball than those guarding him without it. He would often tear down court...leaving the defender to catch up...then would abruptly stop on a dime and bend at the waist...letting the defender run into and over him. Then he'd walk to the line and nail two.
The guy was a basketball freak.
from what i am told elvin ivory would have takin both of their lunch money at the same time
Totally different positions and attitude!!!
"At USL, I used them, and they used me," says Ivory. "All they wanted was a black to play basketball for them; they didn't give a damn about me personally. It was about one thing, about how bad they wanted me to go there. I used to tell them all the time, you're not doing me any favors." Elvin Ivory
Back in those days Toney had the quickest first step in the NBA
