  1. UL Tennis Lady Cajun’s 2007 Pepsi Challenge


      Louisiana's Lady Cajuns tennis team hosts the Pepsi Challenge Tournament this weekend at the Cement Swamp.

    The Pepsi Challenge will begin on Friday and last through the weekend, ending on Sunday.

    This weekend’s tournament is the final event of the fall season for the Lady Cajuns before beginning team dual matches in January.

      RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech Lady Techster tennis team hits the road for a tournament in Lafayette this weekend. The Pepsi Challenge hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette will begin Friday with a number of teams participating. The Techsters will play in singles brackets and in doubles action.

    This weekend’s tournament is the final event of the fall individual season for the Lady Techsters before beginning team dual matches in January.

  3. UL Tennis Five Advance in Day 1 of Pepsi Challenge


    LOUISIANA - The Lady Cajuns of UL tennis had five players advance to the semifinals round of their respective brackets in Day 1 of the Pepsi Challenge tennis tournament on Friday.

    Julie Mazinova, Angela Dangond, Myrthe Molenveld and Kim van der Horst each advanced in the red draw singles. Maria Ruiz de Gauna advanced in the white draw.

    Mazinova defeated Northwestern State’s Kathrine Lange 6-1, 6-2 to advance. Dangond bested Louisiana-Monroe’s Noelia Lion 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 to advance. Mazinova and Dangond will play each other in the semifinals round on Saturday.

    Molenveld advanced after defeating McNeese State’s Meri Gol 6-2, 6-1. Van der Horst topped Texas A&M Corpus Christi’s Carmen Abeaboreu 6-2, 6-2. Molenveld and van der Horst will face each other in the semifinals on Saturday.

    Ruiz de Gauna advanced to the semifinals after besting Fairfield’s Michaela Cerrone 6-0, 6-2. She will take on McNeese State’s Giovanna Arrando on Saturday.

    In doubles action, Mazinova and Molenveld advanced to the quarterfinals round after defeating Fairfield’s Cerrone and Gretchen Amberg 8-1 in the red doubles draw. Van der Horst and Dangond also advanced.

    In the white doubles draw, Ruiz de Gauna and Mia Gordon advanced to the quarterfinals after they topped Louisiana Tech’s Ashley Wedderburn and Alexandra Gaspar 8-3.

    Tournament play continues Saturday with doubles beginning at 9:00 a.m.

  4. UL Tennis Lady Cajun’s Capture Two Titles at Pepsi Challenge


      Louisiana’s Lady Cajuns tennis team captured two championships at their own Pepsi Challenge tennis tournament over the weekend.

    Angela Dangond won the red draw singles bracket after defeating teammate Kim van der Horst 6-1, 7-5.

    In doubles action, Dangond captured another championship with partner van der Horst. The pair topped Myrthe Molenveld and Julie Mazinova 8-6.

    The two titles marked the first championships won by the UL women this fall.

    The Pepsi Challenge concluded the fall season for the Lady Cajuns.

    Red Draw Doubles Finals: Angela Dangond/Kim van der Horst (UL) def. Myrthe Molenveld/Julie Mazinova 8-6

    White Draw Doubles Finals: Maria Ruiz de Gauna/Mia Gordon (UL) def. Megan Harless/Alecka Valarezo (TAMUCC) 9-7
