US News seems to disagree w/ you

Tech is Tier 1 under USN&WR. UL is one of 378 universities in the entire country under the Princeton Review. UL is also a Top 100 Research University. Tech is mot ranked in either. That should make us Tier 1 under Princeton Review, which is comparable to USN&WR, if not more respected. So, we should both be able to boast.

Let me make this point one more time...USNWR ranks Tech higher...Princeton Review and Washington Monthly rank UL higher....all rankings are incredibly subjective....both Universities use these rankings to benefit themselves....more power to them....the reality is in the academic world, SREB rates both as 4 year 2 (Doctoral 2) and Carnegie rates both as RU/H....both are fine Universities...

We have the second largest student population and campus size in Louisiana. We have been number two in those areas since the 80's.

It happened 50 years sooner. UL has been the 2nd largest pubic school in the State since the late 1937 or 38.

UL's growth led to the establishment of McNeese in 1939.

LSU's enrollment is up too.

I think both UL and LSU's increases are a reflection of increased graduation rates.

This does not seem to compute during Dr. Authement's tenure.

Especially, any correlation between athletic success and enrollment.

For the vast majority of colleges/universities, athletic success can not be directly correlated with increased enrollment. There are always exceptions, usually short-term, but not trends.

UL received a tremendous amount of advertising during the Brian Michell and again during the Jake Delhomme era.

UL also benefited from the oil field population influx and a substantial foreign student population.

But don't just look at growth look at atrophy, coming off Jake Delhomme's career the student body stood at 17,020. Over the next 5 years ( Stokley's unfortunate 1997 season and the Baldwin era) it gradually fell to 15,489.

I'm sure T-Joe looked at selective admissions history when predicting a drop, but I wonder if he looked at the front porch success part of the equation.

I'm surprised that wasn't enough to offset the overall loss of students.
