When you have a guy at DE who weighs 210 pounds, what intangibles are going to make up for that?? Even if he has a great motor, he's going to get pancaked by a TE much less a Tackle. His "intangibles" can't be too great if he wasn't recruited by any D-1 teams.

BTW, everybody mentions Kwarteng and I loved what he brought to our team. You have to remember, he only really made a big impact his senior year. I'm hoping for these guys that will come here and be all-conference players earlier in their career. I think this point is worthless anyway because we have some talent at DE who are all young. Richardson is going to be a beast and Cook or S. Moore have some promise.

Yes, that would likely happen if he had to play next Fall but it is it even remotely possible he could red shirt and put on say 25-35 lbs, keep his motor and be the type player we need when he is a 4th year junior?

What kind of idiots would recruit a DE that's under 220 lbs? I think that any coach that would offer one should be dispatched to the unemployment line immediately. Why it's the craziest thing I have ever heard of, what on earth were they thinking?

Guys, do you remember what UL is looking for? SLEEPERS!

Where do we find those? They are players without offers that a system/scheme did not feature, played for a team that lost a lot, or did not start until their senior season because of someone ahead of them, an injury/other circumstance, or because they changed positions going into their senior season.

I saw this kid at the Redstick Bowl, and he certainly passes the look test, he LOOKS like a freakin football player. He plays for a losing program, and switched positions in his senior season, just add water and a pinch of salt, and you have yourself a fine sleeper!

Several DL and one RB I think. I haven't confirmed, so no names yet.

I think he wore #84 in that game Drumroll. Another kid that wore #34 will look good in a Cajun uniform as well.

The Rivals recruit ratings are accurate for only those kids Rivals knew about in the early stages. A lot of these kids were already pegged in their sophmore and junior years by scouting groups and everyone on the planet that kept up the buzz. Once the game is on it begins to feed itself enormously. The kids that already have notoriety start slapping on more layers of star power once the BCS schools start calling on them, and that was already in formation due to scouting reports (hence a closed loop). Once the top 40 to 50 schools make their choices known, that just about locks up the 4 and 5 star tags. Do you think a kid that just gets his 2 star only because of a D1A "lower tier" offer, then somehow ends up on a top 40 team, jumps up a star or 2... really improved in a day? BS. It is an enormously self-feeding system. Rivals, by design, is not going to reward anyone that they did not sniff out from the beginning or does not match up to a top 40 to 50 school... it is much harder to climb that hill later, than to fall down that hill once they hooked you with 4 to 5 stars and all the kings came calling.

Many highschool kids are not a perfectly proven commodity. They are a raw form of their future selves. BCS schools don't generally look for a "prospect"... they are getting way too many calls and attention from so-said "proven commodoties".

Rivals accuracy is lacking badly past the top 40 to 50 schools on the list. Rivals is damn good at calling an ace an ace when they've had him in their face over and over... but have no idea about an ace they have not seen, or seen or heard about much. There are some seriously good kids that our coaches can see, test, question, get to know and be overwhelmed with. As drumroll put it, we are looking for sleepers. They are all over the place.

When you cannot pick up the prototypical heralded kid... you look at the kid that is a little undersized (right now), a kid who couldn't star because he was right in back of a superstar on the depth chart, a kid who was great at a smaller school, and so on. That is what UL has to do... for now. I am going to only judge our coaches on Saturdays, and our admin Sunday thru Friday... never the kids. YOU COME TO UL... YOU ARE OUR STAR. <=== put that statement on our bash... I'm kind of liking it.

We need to stop bellyaching about Rivals and stars. If any of our recruits wants more stars when he gets in our program, I am going to run down to the school supplies store and pick up some star stickers for him.

Nice post! I like your "star" attitude! We can all pitch in for a few extra stars.

    Was it a nice place???

CT, I remember a couple years ago, Colorado had problems with recruits and girls and parties and so forth, and it got them in some hot water. After that, their administration said that parents would be invited (or maybe even required) to take the trips with the recruits. Does UL also invite parents, or is it suggested that they come along too? Does UL help subsidize their visits? I'm not sure how it works on that end. I know you talked about something like this on BEV the other day...How the kids look at the program more, whereas the parents look at the education and the dorm facilities more.
